If it's weight-loss you're after the advice is to increase daily activity.... regular lighter exercise rather than irregular vigorous exercise. This keeps the metabolism running at a relatively high level 24/7 rather than being up one day and down the next. So in between your gym sessions make sure you're doing something else active for about half an hour each day...brisk walk will do the trick. Also, exercise that improves muscle-tone will increase metabolism...so include some strengthening and toning exercises in with aerobic gym work.

Muscle is a more dense material than fat so if you're not actually losing weight you may still find you're losing a few inches. Team up the exercise with a reduced-calorie diet and you should find weight-loss is quite steady.
