Teitze's is apparently very rare. so rare in fact that the gp's dont know how to treat it. my ribs dont go back to how they were after a flare up so my torso is just going to get more deformed. my back is killing, i keep losing feeling in my arms and my shulders are really stiff. all i can do is take painkillers. i cant even fill a fecking kettle without it pulling on my ribs and making it worse.

i know there are people much worse off than me, but im a bit scared now.

Poor you. I know nothing about Teitze's but didn't want your post to go unanswered. Sometimes we don't appreciate the simple things in life like reasonably good health.
Do hope you feel a bit better soon.

thank you, its inflammation of the cartlige connecting my rib to the sternum. its so painful and unpredictable. as you said, you take your health for granted.

Ouch! Poor you It sounds so painful.

Hmm inflammation can often be helped by aloe vera juice - have you thought about that? Also possibly go see a Chinese medical herbalist/acupuncturist. Inflammation within is thought of as a 'heat' abnormality so they might be able to help. I know a lot of people think comp therapies are rubbish - but honestly a PROPERLY trained practitioner can be amazingly helpful and work wonders.

rumpel, I am an aromatherapist and have tried blending my own massage oil. the problem is that the swelling pushes the bone out, taht in turn distorts the shoulders. i use painkillers (which i hate, they make me sick) deep heat style rub once a day and if it gets too bad i can have cortisone injections into the site. my bottom right hand side is all distorted now and i have v limited movement in my shoulders.

You should ask to be referred to the pain clinic for proper analgesia... good luck!

Rumpel · 28/07/2010 19:31

Hmm but heat onto heat is not so good. Also massaging inflammation not so good either.

I am an aromatherapisdt too but I also studied shiatsu - based on traditional Chinese medicine. TCM looks at things completely differently to Western medicine but they both make sense and you can see how it works if you study them. It's too complicated to go into in depth but I would highly, highly recommend seeing a TCM acupuncturist - go with the usual gut instinct - make sure you like them/good rapport etc etc.

I really think they would be able to help you.
I'd also try cool compresses on the area - valerian oil (not sure if you have used it) is fantastic for pain relief.

I am sure your DH loves you for who you are - we all go through stuff in life we didn't think we'd have to. Remember you met each other for a reason and you a teaching each other in this life path .
