Your best tips for fighting off a chesty cough

I'm starting a new job next week and I'm coming down with a stinking chesty cough. Sounds like a smokers cough even though I don't smoke. It's making my lungs hurt. No temperature.

I can't go in on my first day into their quiet little office sounding like the Marlboro Man.

Any ideas? Over the counter or general maintenance advice?

steam inhalation and lots of it. pyrex bowl (or similar) filled with just boiled water from the kettle, towel over the head but keep head fairly upright so steam goes up the nose, ie it's not a facial). Do it as much as you can. Better than any cough medicine.

good luck and hope you feel better soon. And stay of dairy if you can. and chocolate

What Mckenzie said. You can get some great (and cheap) menthol stuff from chemist to add in to water to make it even more effective too. Got me over pneumonia, but I was doing it 4-6 times a day.
