Try not to worry Colliecross - I have had an ovarian cyst before that was 4cm diameter and it went away of it's own accord.

I too am waiting for a scan again.

What are the reasons behind you having the scan - has something already been found, or is it symptoms?

Do not panic.
I had a cyst discovered 2 years back and had a scan every 4 months ( private) as I was post meno and they like to keep an eye...

after a year it began to shrink and now- another year on- it has gone! it was small anyway- 3 cms .

They are very common- more so in younger women who are ovulating often.

Thank you both - my only symptom is pain; perfectly ok in other respects.
I am 48 but my family have v.late menopause usually.

I had a couple of endometrial cysts on my overies. Syymptoms were very painful periods, also high temperatures and also very heavy. This lasted for 2 years then seemed to go of it's own accord. This was my mid 40's and doctor said I was perimenopausal.

I have one that is 17cm! It is being removed next week. Have you had a blood test as that can give some indication as to whether it is something to worry about or not.

Most cysts go away on their own, as others have said. Mine didn't, as it had solid parts in it and had to be removed. If they do a blood test (CA125) bear in mind it's only an indicator and not 100% reliable. Fingers crossed for you.

Thank you everyone
