Plus Size Maternity Wear

Hello

I'm normally a size 24... and currently 13 weeks pregnant. Can anyone recommend where to get plus size maternity clothes from... well - apart from Simply be/JD Williams?

Does it work just to go a size up from your normal clothes??

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
Hayley

In standard size clothing, you wear the same size in maternity clothes - I guess this is the same for plus size. Dotty P does maternity clothes up to a 22, but I find their sizes generous (although I am a 14, can't comment on their larger sizes).

TBH there isn't much out there and what there is is HUGELY overpriced.

It would seem that retailers think that fat people shouldn't be having sex so therefore we have no need of nice maternity wear.

I'm a 24/26 and found a few bits on ebay, but again the prices were a bit steep. I found trousers the most difficult to buy, especially in the later months, i had to go up a couple of sizes just to get something i could sit down in comfortably.

have you looked in H & M? i dont know if they do an actual maternity range but def do a plus size range. all the clothes are too long for me and would think they would be ok to wear as maternity cause they are so long.

also when i was pregnant i bought quite alot from bon marche, now dont turn me off just yet!! there was some nice plain tops and elasticated bottoms in large sizes. (ment to say i was 20-22 when pg with dd 4 years ago!)

Evans used to do maternity stuff, got quite nice tops and dresses. Might be worth a try.

you might want to check out these rain ponchos. www.rainwave.co.uk. They look cool and one size fits all!

HI there congratulations :)
When I was pregnant I put on just over 5 stone, and I had to find larger sizes of maternity wear. I was a 12/14 but went up to a size 20. I bought a pair of isabella oliver trousers from ebay in size 5 (iirc) and these were the most comfortable trousers I could have bought. I did buy other pairs from say Next and dorothy perkins, but I found the cotton to be much softer in the i.o trousers. I think that normal clothes with lots of elastane in them were the most comfortable for me, and in the sizes I needed.
It's fairly difficult as sizes differ (imo) from shop to shop. Good luck x

i couldn't find any nice size 22 maternity wear except for Next. I got a pair of jeans and a pair of black trousers and they did me.I also got a few nice dresses from evans.

I was a size 24 then I got pregnant with twins!! Only one thing fitted me for the last two months of my pregnancy - it was a foul animal print 'hippy' dress! Washed it every other night and wore every day until my boys were born!

weegiemum · 24/02/2011 22:53

I had a pair (well I think I might have had 3 pairs) of elastcated waist jeans from Evans a size up from normal - they were more like "jeans leggings" IYKWIM) but that was at least 7 years ago.

I bought t shirts and tops a size bigger and just made do.

Its not easy, elastic is your friend!

Also I had one of these: Belly Belt which allowed me to weqr my normal stuff until abot 6.5-7 months.
