Hello All,
My DS is nearly three and has a temperature of 39.8C. He's had this for the last 3 days and despite using Calpol it hasn't dropped. He's not confused, dazed or in pain, but he isn't eating despite wanting to. I've rung NHSD but have been told a call back will be 4 hours+.
I'd be grateful for any advice.
Thanks in advance.
Daddy Brad

Try giving ibuprofen too? You can give Calpol and Calprofen (or whatever brand you have) simultaneously.

Thanks, will do.

Ok...have you tried using a combination of calpol (paracetomol) and ibuprofen?
my son suffers from high temps whenever he is unwell and we have to use both at about 4 hour intervals.
You need to make an appt with his GP to find out the source of the temp. he could have a minor throat/ear infection

Thanks. I've never been happy mixing drugs but I'll give it a try. Just searching the house for some ibuprofen now!

Have you any idea what's causing the raised temp? Do you think he may have an ear infection, UTI, anything like that or no other symptoms apart from the raised temp?

Ingles2 · 24/07/2010 21:51

ok...give alternately. I write it on the kitchen blackboard so as not to get confused in the middle of the night.
I'm never happy about mixing drugs either but it does work.
Hope he's feeling better soon

It needs to be childrens ibuprofen.

In the mean time, strip him off and give him plenty to drink. You can give Ibuprofen in between calpol, it's alot better at bringing a temperature down. Have you had a look in his throat?

DaddyBrad · 24/07/2010 21:58

Thank you all. Found some Orbifen which he's now had. No other symptoms that I can see. Throat appears OK. Really appreciate the advice - thanks again!
