BLuesky - I had jet black poos when I was taking iron tablets!

It can be a sign of blood in the poo though. Is it you??

SleepySuzy · 22/08/2005 13:25

Definately a sign of high iron content.

SleepySuzy · 22/08/2005 13:27

On second thoughts, could also be something serious if you're not taking iron supplements. I would get it checked.

bluesky · 22/08/2005 14:38

it's me, and I don't take iron tablets, don't take anything. Going to Dr later.

I also thougth your poo went black when you had high iron content I don't think it is a bad thing even if you are not taking tablets

bluesky · 22/08/2005 17:20

Apparently it is a bad thing, hence why I had to go to the Dr's today, especially when you cross off the fact I a) haven't eaten blueberries (?), liquorice, had pepto bismol and other weird things.

Bluesky - What did the Doc say??

SleepySuzy · 23/08/2005 08:58

Any news?

bluesky · 23/08/2005 10:55

had a nice exploratory examination!..... bottom fine!

Then have 3 little pots to fill and keep in the fridge, when done, have to take them to hospital and have blood tests.

If I see any blood have to go straight in. I feel OK, and when she prodded around my tum it didnt hurt, she thought it might hurt higher up if it was an ulcer, black poo is usually bleeding from the higher part of your tum, ie ulcer or something.

PS: thanks for asking after me!

I thought so (the ulcer bit), just didn't want to say! Good luck.

jabberwocky · 23/08/2005 13:52

From what I understand it is black because the blood has been digested. That is how they know it comes from higher up. Do you a history of ulcers?

bluesky · 23/08/2005 14:59

no ulcer history, but am not so black today - so fingers crossed!!
