I'm due to have my gallbladder removed and have heard some nasty tales.Keyhole surgery or open surgery.

I had mine removed keyhole last year; it was fine. I was on my feet the next day and although taking it easy was pretty much as normal within a few days. I thought that keyhole was the norm these days, and they only resort to open if something either goes wrong with the keyhole, or things are worse than they thought.

Intrigued as to the nasty tales!

I had keyhole surgery last Jan. No problems. Fair bit of pain for a couple of days but back to school run less than a week after op (mile walk there and back)

You recover much more quickly from keyhole surgery compared with open surgery. I had it done myself. Don't worry!

Glad to hear that, I too am waiting to have mine removed.

Had mine done in April this year and SOOOO pleased! Had it keyhole. Bear in mind that the anesthetic for this op is quite heavy and you'll be one of the earliest in / last to leave. It took me a while to stop sleeping on the ward afterwards but was told this is completely normal.

Now, I did have some problems which meant I had to go back in for 4 days via A&E two days later BUT it was a very treatable and known side effect which is very very rare. They diagnosed the problem with 4 hours.

Honestly, despite having to go back in, it is one of the best things I've ever done. You'll be able to eat normally again and never have that pain again!

Had mine done last October and it was absolutely fine. It was done keyhole (I also was under the impression that they always tried keyhole first and only resorted to open surgery if that failed - my surgeosn said that was only in about 5% of cases).

Recovery was good - had the op at about 10am, was back in my room by lunchtime, had no ill-effects from the anaesthetic (i.e. needing to sleep more or anything), I could have gone home that evening but as I was in a private hospital with a private room, I chose to stay for the night rather than go home to a 3 year old and a 1 year old .

The hospital gave me a sick note for 2 weeks but I could have gone back to work after 1 week really. Was back at the gym after 10 days and have had no side-effects since (apart from being able to eat anything and everything again - bliss)
