in case we forget and find ourselves at 1000 - here's a fresh new thread !

OP posts:
sandripples · 24/09/2010 17:33

My DD was very put out when she started school as they started with books with no words. As she was really keen to learn to read she was rather disgusted by this! However we all enjoyed Biff and Chip once they got going! And as I mentioned 100 years ago on here, ny niece was the editor of the series for a couple of years so I feel a loyalty!

Pennies- thanks about the iron - I am indeed watching my intake and I do like liver. The butcher reaches for it automatically now when I go in! I have to eat it when my veggie family aren't around....

Thanks everyone for comments - its reassuring =you had this too. I don't actually think its my iron levels as my red blood counts are #normal' and have held up very well, so suspect its low blood pressure - my readings have been rather low since my fist op. Nurse said ' Sorry I can't give you any more morphie as your BP is too low.' This was in the recovery room - don't think its picked up much ever since! (That op was the first blow to my body you see - it didn't know what was happening.)

Had delicious lunch out today for a friend's birthdya - really relaxing too and good fun. Lovely fish cake and even more lovely Bakewell tart with custard and alcoholic cherries - divine combination!!

KurriKurri · 24/09/2010 18:36

I've managed to lose the sapphire (main stone) from my engagement ring Sad Can't find it anywhere.

reallywoundup · 24/09/2010 20:19

Haven't got time to catch up with what's going on with you guys but wanted to update from our end!

Picked up the keys at lunchtime today- i am now the proud owner of Nant-y-Celyn (i have a house with a name- how posh, never had a named house before Grin)! so far we have gone round with polyfilla, bought and installed the new cooker (handy having a sil who's an electrical engineer lol!) put all the linens in the airing cupboard (mindnumbing lol!) and taken up a laminate floor from one of the boys bedrooms (small children bouncing on a laminate floor= far too noisy lol!) relaid said laminate in the downstairs entrance area, cleaned and sparklified the wet room, and put the right paints in the right rooms ready for the rellies to start at 8 o'clock sharp tomorrow Grin

i'd forgotten how big it is..... i LOVE my new house, and dd didn't want to leave- wanted to "stay new 'ouse".

MaryAnnSingleton · 24/09/2010 21:06

RWU - you have been busy !! sounds fab- congratulations !!!
KK - oh no Sad Pray to St Anthony -usually works...have you looked in things like bins/down sofa etc - I can imagine how awful it must be. My brother posted my mum's ring through the floorboards, never to be seen again. Really, really hope you find it xx

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 24/09/2010 21:27

House sounds lovely RWU - really pleased for you Smile - I looked up the name to try and translate into English and came up with 'Stream of the Holly Tree' is that close?

Thank you MAS - I posted a thread about it on chat, and someone else suggested St Anthony. -I said he might not want to help an old atheist like meGrin but I am going to give it a go. Smile

I've just spent about 10 mins easing the ring off because it is sharp now. It was very tight and very misshapen, - can't remember when I last took it off.

reallywoundup · 24/09/2010 21:31

Hope you find it KK, keep the ring somewhere safe for now.... forget about it for a while and voila- the stone will turn up when you are least expecting it Grin

The house name means Holly Brook- very apt as there is lovely big holly bushes behind the back fence and a little stream beyond! I am so much more relaxed about the whole thing now- so is dh, suddenly the task of moving is getting exciting- boys can't wait to come tomorrow as they haven't seen it yet Shock

I'm on the hunt for some curtains (temporary measure, bloody argos lol!)

KurriKurri · 24/09/2010 21:35

Oh beautiful - your bushes will be covered in berries, and you will get lots of birdsSmile

reallywoundup · 24/09/2010 21:57

there's a swallows nest too, we're not going to remove it- it'll be great for the kids to see it, apparently swallows re-use their nests if they are still there (feel free to correct me, i am clueless- this came from sil- who to be honest is bonkers Grin)

MaryAnnSingleton · 24/09/2010 22:04

sounds fabulous RWU - wishing you lots of happiness there.
I will ask St Anthony for you (in my lapsed Catholic manner)

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 24/09/2010 22:14

Thank you MAS Smile xx

Pennies · 25/09/2010 10:08

I hope you find the stone KK. I once lost the diamond from my engagement ring but found it so all may not be lost.

sandripples · 25/09/2010 15:42

KK _ good luck with finding your saphire - how sad and upsetting, but it might turn up.

You were very close with your translation of RWU's house-name - well done!

RWU - congratulations on the purchase - it sounds really great. And lovely that your DD likes it too!

I feel a bit rough today - have got a cold for the 1st time in a year! So having got all the necessaries for DS's ASs (text books, lever arch files, dividers, academic diary, new scientific calculator as his disappeared a while ago) I', going to rest now.

I see MN is having a sort of info-campaign about cancers - will browse a bit.

KurriKurri · 25/09/2010 21:34

Thank you all, - it has not turned up so far, we went to a jewellers today and they said they could probably replace it but would have to send it away for an estimate - so may end up doing that, but will look for a bit longer. There is a slim chance I lost it at my keep fit class, so I will check there next week (I helped cram some mats into a box so it might have been knocked out then).

Sorry you've got a cold SR, but well done for getting DS kitted out. Hope you feel better soon.

No sink yet, we went to look, but DH got a migraine and felt ill so we came home so he could have a lie down.

Hope everyone's had a good SaturdaySmile

reallywoundup · 26/09/2010 19:11

arrrrrrggghhhhhhh!

This is so stressful lol!

House has been painted from top to bottom now. Garden has been sorted (by a lovely group of young-farmers- they brought a trailer to the old house, dismantled everything, brought it to the new house and even put it all back up again- so we have shed, playhouse, trampoline, swing, slide and brand new garden furniture all set up ready in the garden! Oh and they strimmed and mowed the garden for me too!)

I can't move my right arm very much now from all the painting- between 7 of us we have decorated 12 rooms in two days! carpets tomorrow and then i can ferry the beds over and put them up ready for the mattresses on Thursday (nothing worse than having to MAKE the bloody beds before going to sleep lol!)

Still looking for curtains- narrowing it down now that i've seen the room decorated!

KK- i do hope you find it soon x

KurriKurri · 26/09/2010 19:24

Wow RWU - that is an incredible amount of work you have achieved. Well done (and hooray for the young farmersSmile)

Pennies · 26/09/2010 20:32

Shock at the amount you got done RWU! Well done!

Any joy on the sapphire KK?

Spent the day getting frozen to the core and soaked to the skin at Whipsnade whilst taking our local Rainbows group there. Not much fun.

KurriKurri · 26/09/2010 20:58

No - no sign of it yet Pennies, I'm not very optimistic it will turn up Sad

Rain is awful here too - sorry you got drenched on your Rainbows trip.

cupcaked · 26/09/2010 23:12

It has turned very autumnal suddenly hasn't it? RWU how exciting, even if such hard work. And how nice of the young-farmers. KK so sorry about your sapphire. I lost a very expensive ring a few years ago, and no amount of pleading with St Anthony helped (usually does!) so think maybe he just doesn't do rings! Hope it was insured? (mine wasn't..)

SR thnx for pointer to the info-campaign, nice to see u & Smee there! (I am so not going to read about Carrie's mother..) Funny to reflect on the fact that 6 months ago I was one of those people who vaguely thought should check for lumps but naively didn't think for a second BC would ever happen to me. I was a different person then, and I miss being that person. Right, that's the little wallow over now, sorry bout that!

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/09/2010 07:32

St Anthony is good with contact lenses !
Hope everyone has a good week- mine is a little manic -drawing/childminding/Mindfulness course starts/bereavement counselling/ cat feeding at my parents & book group...am starting off gently with coffee in town with 2 friends..
Hope everything continues to go well for the move RWU and love to all x

OP posts:
Cakesandale · 27/09/2010 10:12

I am truly in awe about the amount RWU and friends have achieved in the new house, which sounds absolutely lovely.

So sorry about the sapphire KK, I lost a diamond from my first ring once, it never turned up, and then the ring (it was in my purse waiting to go to the jewellers) got stolen as well, along with the purse. So that was the end of that. I hope you have more luck. My MIL is a Catholic through and through and would definitely recommend St Anthony to you.

Cupcaked - I feel different too. More scared and less at peace in my mind. I think that's why I can't sit still. It's absolutely knackering Smile

Cakesandale · 27/09/2010 10:29

RWU - the thought of a garden filled with young farmers has just put a song in my heart Grin

cupcaked · 27/09/2010 14:28

That sounds familiar Cakes. I hate having time to think and will not go to bed until I know I am going to fall asleep quickly (hence the lateness of many of my posts!) I can feel my energy returning in the last few days now that I am off chemo and it's great but hope this doesn't translate into more anxiety. It is very hard work, I agree, wonder will we ever feel truly relaxed again.. Maybe someone can answer that for me?

SR, are u well hydrated? Postural dizziness as you describe can be sign of dehydration so make sure you drink plenty. I agree low blood count is a more common cause of dizziness in people on chemo, esp at your stage of chemo, but if your blood count is good then that's not it.

Cakesandale · 27/09/2010 14:38

here's an example of what I am like now, in my hyper vigilant state. my BC was only found because I was called for a mammo on a pilot scheme targeted at younger women. So I count myself pretty lucky, and at the weekend I got a letter calling me for a smear as their records say I am overdue. Actually, I had one in January, but I can't help seeing this as a "sign" like the mammogram thing, and I am going to make myself go through it all again. I know it's weird, but I won't rest if I don't (and I won't rest if I do, but you know what I mean Hmm )

smee · 27/09/2010 14:50

Cupcaked, I couldn't read that article about poor Carrie's mum either. How are you feeling now? Week 2 of Rads. Hope the skin's still in tact. How soon after finishing chemo did you start on Tamoxifen? All my lot will say is that it's soon, which seems a bit vague.

RWU am applauding loudly at your painting of Holly Brook. Really can't believe you've done that much already. Are the kids excited? Bet they are.

Cakes, how's your daughter this week? Mondays are often hard, so hope she's doing alright and the school really is on it. I do approve of her Buddhist attitude though. She sounds lovely.

SR, you never know it might be slightly low iron. I have low BP too, but just got my bloods back for next chemo and the iron's on the low side. It's borderline, so they're not worried, but the Onc said it's hugely common, especially towards the end of chemo. If you've got low BP too it's a bit of a killer of a combination. In a life affirming mood, I just got one of those new Boris free(ish!) London bikes to cycle a bit of the way home and nearly blacked out! Maybe not that life affirming then. Grin

Kurri, that's sad about your ring. Might still turn up though. My Mum found a stone 3 months later inside a glove, so fingers crossed for you.

Pennies, how was Eddie Izzard then? Bet he was amazing. Have only seen him once, but he was astounding. Made me think as well as laugh, which is no mean feat.

MAS that does sound like a full week, though coffee with friends sounds like an excellent start.

Cakesandale · 27/09/2010 15:11

Hi smee - the bike sounds like a brave attempt: I did NOTHING in the exercise line while on chemo, seriously. So good for you.

Forgot to ask about Eddie Izzard - do spill, Pennies. I think he is great.

Not sure how dd is, smee - but thanks for asking. I am off to pick her up shortly and I am going to be monitoring pretty closely now that my suspicions have been confirmed by third parties.
