i have a pain which is literally just to the right of my belly button, is like a crampy pain and is in the same position on my back but my back is generally achy on the right side. It's not there constantly it comes and goes seems worse at night and in a morning when i wake up. Nothing seems to make it worse or better??

It makes me feel slightly bloated and flatulant.

Anyone got any ideas??

how long have you had it?

could be a kidney infection or appendicitus / grumbling appendix

I'm not medically trained at all though, so feel free to ignore

Started approx 4 weeks ago but then went for a week or so and then returned again yesterday.

I have no other symptoms other than the pain at night like now is quite bad.

I have had my appendix removed years ago and I think the pain is a lot higher than it perhaps would be for appendix.

I had kidney infections on and off for a couple of years. Not hugely serious, but were very painful at times. They can be diagnosed by culturing a urine sample and might well need anitbiotics. They did come and go a bit and sometimes I'd have symptoms but the tests came back clear.

Have you seen your GP about this? pain for this long should be checked out

Apart from kidneys, this is going to sound silly, but could it be trapped wind? that can really hurt. Polos helps

Is it a pain or is it sore? I have had right abdo pain, same place as you for 2/half years. Been back and forth to the docs and eventually told it was ibs, aching back esp in the morning, also I sleep on the right side which doesnt help. Got fed up, went back as I have been scared it could be bowel cancer, though had a barium enema and ct last year to check it out.3 months ago she convinced me to try an anti-depressant, Citalopram, I insisted depite the awful time we are going thru, that I am not depressed. She said they are not only for that, so I gave them a try.I have now been pain free for 2 weeks, I do feel less anxious, my husband is battling bowel/liver/lung cancer and in fact was taken into hosp yday very poorly. It is just a thought, stress can cause real symptems, I just wish I had tried them two years ago. Good luck.

Hi janbo, just read what you'd written. Could you keep a diary of everything you've eaten, drunk and done for about 2wks, before flare-ups, and figure out if any of those things are causing the problem(s).
If you can't pinpoint anything, I'd go to the dr for a chat about it.

Gallbladder is a distinct possibility.

I think you should go to your GP, they can test for this and other things. Don't leave it though.

Triplets I am really sorry about your husband. That must be terribly hard for you.

ChilledChick2 · 16/07/2010 22:22

Triplets, what can I say. you have my utmost respect for the things you're having to deal with atm.

triplets · 17/07/2010 18:24

Thank you both, it is very hard here atm, he is still in hosp. The trio have been ok, but I find them exhausting on my own, they were 12 in Jan. Life is stressful for lots of us, mine started 16yrs ago when my first child died suddenly, then having triplets at 46, now this!! Still I can still enjoy the sun on my face......esp if I have a glass of wine in my hand
