Periods

For years my periods follow a 28 day cycle with the exception of the time when I was pg and had DS. Even the third period I had after DS fell back into the 28 day cycle and back to me being able to almost time it arriving to the minute.

What reasons therefore are there for them to now arrive 3 weekly and be hugely heavy with massive pains?

How long has this been happening to you?.

Would get such problems properly investigated by a gynaecologist (not the GP as it is outside their remit. The GP should therefore refer you to such a specialist).

Any such changes to the cycle should always be investigated further by such a person.
Fibroids for instance can cause heavy and prolonged bleeding.

Do not put up with it, it is certainly in your interests to determine the underlying cause/s.

I have recently been diagnosed with adenomyosis, after suffering the same symptoms. I was prescribed tranexamic acid and mefenamic acid, which have really helped.

OK. Thanks both for your help. Will get this looked into.

tefal where in the UK are you?

I think I'll have to have a mriena for mine, which are also 3 weekly and can get through a super plus tampon in a couple of hours

I am in Australia but due to move back in 3 weeks time. Not sure if I should see someone here or wait.

Its just been so sudden. This is my third period since 30 May! The 3rd one started today. The previous 2 have lasted in excess of a week each so I have had less than 14 days break.

Just wondered if you were near me, I have the best gynae

I would wait, because they will obviously need to refer you to a gynae then they will prob do some tests etc. But as long as its just a couple of weeks, dont leave it
