Grrr been up last hour, am red raw!!

This is the third time in 3/4months! I'm so fed
up!! It's not just the thrush my whole area is red raw. Last time I saw dr she said she thought that bit was a skin condition and gave me caneston hydrocortisone as well as treatment for actual thrush!!

Aaarraaagggghhh hate going to drs! Have to either get grudging dh to take time off to look after kids or go
in my work time- as I've been off for last 2 weeks with dc and me being ill not good option!

Firstly do NOT use tampons they can push the infection up inside you so it is internal as well as external. Do not put yoghurt on tampon for the same reason

The usual stuff really, cotton next to skin, get partner treated as well. Are you using aloe vera imprgnated loo roll or loo roll impregated with anything? If so stop.

Microwave knickers for 30 seconds, watch that they don't catch fire! This can kill anything lurking after washing. Always wash knickers on 60 degrees plus anyway.

Get online and look up garlic treatments for thrush - some people swear by them but I have not used them myself. Garlic kills candida albicans which is the bacteria that causes thrush.

Lastly and if you are brave - a very salty bath - that cleared me up within two days - have a cool bath three times a day with as much salt as you can stand. Ouch at first but this works.

Overgrowth of yeast is helped a lot by taking bicarb of soda a quarter of tsp. in 1 tabspoon of lemon juice twice a day on an empty stomach it's brill for putting on as well. Hope you feel better soon.

Are you sure it's thrush? I had something similar a few years ago, would not go away and then saw a locum doctor who diagnosed a sort of fungal excema. I was prescribed a cream called Dactacort which worked a treat. Might be worth going to the GP for a check?

Last time i had it less Than a month ago dr did swabs to check and confirmed was thrush. If it persists I will go back! It's horrible and does nowt for sex appetite!!

Nettie do you have the Mirena coil by any chance? I suffered terrible with thrush until I had mine removed, and haven't had one episode since (was removed in January)

I found nothing worked for me apart from the tablet.

mrsm I do have mirena. I've had it over a year now and only been suffering this past 6 months? Could that be it? Oh no I hope not I really like the reassurance I feel with the coil. (so not ready for no3)

Hi Nettie I had it in for almost the whole 5 years, and only suffered with thrush for the last year or so. I didn't link it to the Mirena until I'd had it removed (not for that reason, was having other probs with break through bleeding, spots etc.) but as I say, I haven't had one single sign since having it taken out.

I know what you mean about the reassurance - I feel like I'm taking a huge gamble by just charting & using condoms!

It can get into the bowel as well, so sometimes the creams and pessaries don't work and you need tablets instead. Sometimes they're reluctant to proscribe them as they are expensive. Grrr

Also, it might be worth checking for thyroid problems/diabetes as recurrent thrush can be one of the symptoms.
