Diagnose me

I cant get a doc's appt for 2 weeks (ah, the joys of doctor's waiting lists!), and just wondered if anyone has any ideas about what this could be.

I have had increasingly long cycles and long, heavy periods for the last year or so (gone from a 28 day cycle to a 35 day cycle, periods gone from lasting 5 days to more like 7 or 8). Last month, however, my period arrived on day 21 of my cycle and was quite light, but lasted in little dribbles for about 10 days (sorry for tmi, but it was literally like little dribbles).

Over the past year I have suffered from increased, weird bloating in my abdomen and tenderness around the site of my c-section scar (it's 18 months old and not infected or anything, just tender).

The bloating is annoying. I can go from looking like a relatively normal size 14 to seeming 5 months pregnant seemingly overnight and at all random stages of my cycle.

I also constantly feel weird little movements - like a baby kicking - but obviosuly it's not a baby or I would have been 12 months pregnant by now!

Last night I had really weird pains, almost like contractions, that lasted on and off all night and disappeared in the morning. I have woken up feeling really bloated again and keep having the weird movement feelings and also a kind of tightening sensation, like Braxton Hicks!

What is going on with my body??! Something is not right.

FYI - had a smear ast year and was normal. Was diagnosed with gallstones last year, too, but the pain I felt last nght isn't the same 'pain under the rib' I get with my gallstones.

irritable bowel

Do you think?

That's annoying. What can I do about it? In my 20s my doctor diagnosed IBS when I was going through a period of stress and had a dodgy tummy a lot of the time, but it seemed to have cleared up and didn't put two and two together, here.

Does sound like IBS. Try cutting out bread and if that doesn't work then all wheat/gluten products for a while to see if that helps.

fruitshootsandheaves · 12/07/2010 17:31

you have to work out which foods cause it by trial and error and then eliminate them. I think thats about all you can do.
Trust me I'm a doctor an avid Holby watcher

Thank you. Think I will start with wheat. Does beer have wheat in it?

I had quite a lot of beer last night and my stomach really isnt happy today.

Does IBS affect your periods, though?

Beer has hops in it, so I think you'll be alright there. Unless of course it's the hops that is causing the IBS, if that is in fact what is wrong.

I've not heard of it affecting periods. Could it be menopause? how old are you?

UnholyMoley · 12/07/2010 17:42

Oh, just googled and it seems that beer does have wheat in it

ReasonableDoubt · 12/07/2010 17:44

@ beer/wheat thing. I feel less dim, now.

I'm 33, so I really hope it's not menopause! My periods are definitely weird, though.
