...and I am guessing that if you've clicked, you're not sqeamish, which is just as well.

I popped it in to gauge how much of the stalk thing I should chop off. Bit sore, but no worse than first trying tampons.

However I don't want to yank it out as I keep imagining some sort of hideous sink plunger effect.

Please offer some help while I go and do the school run in the manner of a cowboy.

The whole thing needs to be inside of you.
I think this is why most people take the whole stem off, to get it in low enough.
I don't put mine a knuckle up, I put it in umtil it is just in.
After a bit of practise I'm sure we'll all get there

squidandchips · 12/07/2010 19:22

Ahh you see i like mine high, upto the knuckle ish.

If all women are slightly different then that might explain why it takes a little bit of time to find the right spot. It certainly took me a bit of time, or was i just rumaging around aimlessly!!

MayorNaze · 12/07/2010 19:31

i have forgotten mine is there before

they do tend to migrate higher if this happens

the phrase "disappearing up your own arse" nearly became a frightening reality, such were the contortions i had to assume to retrive it then...

(nb i do of course know that the mooncup does not go up the arse)

WillYouDoTheDamnedFanjo · 12/07/2010 22:44

I am very relieved that other peoples' mooncups migrate higher!

Every time so far it has worked its way up so far I have had to work really hard to get a hold on it and get a finger up one side and get it out, despite me positioning it very carefully low down.

There is NO WAY that I'm cutting that stalk off just yet. If all this shuftying about gives me cystitis I will be cross.

Now for the overnight test...

If it disappears higher than is easy to remove, kind of push down with your muscles (a bit like when you are pooing) while trying to grab the end - it should push it within reach.

catsdontscreetch · 12/07/2010 22:55

Good luck for overnight!

I've had mine about a year now, I started by cutting off half the stem, then a bit more ....until I ended up removing it all.

BertieBotts · 12/07/2010 23:21

TBH if I put it in too low I just find it's uncomfortable for about half an hour and then it seems to migrate to the right place just by me walking around, sitting/standing etc. Tampons don't do that, they just stay uncomfortable

If you really can't get it out don't panic - you can push it out (like a baby) - and I promise you it feels nothing like childbirth I have to bear down to get hold of mine as it tends to work its way up quite high and the suction is pretty strong.

Lots of small pushes are better than one big one. Also if you can catch hold of it between pushes it helps, otherwise it just gets sucked back up again. (I am always forcibly reminded of the ventouse demonstration at NCT classes at this point )

Well day 3 and I reckon it's a keeper! First overnight resulted in no leaks, but a very frustrating 20 minutes in the bathroom trying to relax (MUST! RELAX!) enough to get it out from the stratospheric heights it reached during the night.

That put me off, but I summoned up some sticking power and carried on, although extremely sore. Easier on day 2, still taking a while to "change", but more comfortable with it.

Day 3 and I am very happy not having to take my "special" big handbag to work with me, also getting quite skilled at getting it out- few little pushes, then hook a finger into the side and yank gently.
All in all quite happy with it, but must remember to lock the bathroom door when kids are about...

Well done - glad you're getting on with it OK. I find it goes very high in the night, so I don't always wear it then .

silentcatastrophe · 14/07/2010 19:29

Well done! I've given up on mine. I tried it for about a year, and what a bloody mess I made of it! I didn't like having to change it all the time, the leaking in the night- the rubberiness of it reminded me of my dutch cap and the mooncup pranged around nearly as much. It was totally useless on its own. No, I don't think I'll be going back to it!

thatsnotmyfruitshoot · 14/07/2010 20:04

Ooh, I love my new Mooncup. It is a revelation and I'm getting quite adept at hoiking it out now after some initial contortions.

I wish I'd got one years ago. No more revolting tampons or towels, no string to get in the way everytime you go to the loo (tmi, sorry), no emptying the bathroom bin every 5 minutes.

I really can't imagine ever using up the box of Tampax now languishing at the back of my wardrobe.
