how should i vote, if I want to vote for a political party because their policies align most with what I believe in BUT I can't stand the local candidate? I think she is a singular issue campaigner and it is the issue where I very strongly disagree with the party?

other option is to vote for a local candidate who is alright but not the party that I want to vote for?

If your views broadly align with the policies that party has espoused, then vote for the candidate from that party, whether you like them or not.

Or vote tactically to try to keep out one or other of the parties. Or spoil your vote.

I am going for the candidate I prefer even though i disagree with the party's policies. The candidate of my preferred party is horrible, has been horrible on the local council and I could never vote for them. I just couldn't spoil my vote.
