You don't know a lot about how dentistry works do you @DistinguishedSocialCommentator ? As an adult you pay for all treatment, NHS or private, obviously more for private. Nothing is free, not even check-ups. Do you use a dentist?

Bit harsh

ilovesooty · 12/06/2024 21:06

Nothing is covered by the NHS if your dentist doesn't offer NHS treatment to adults.

And no she didn't treat them the same in her questioning.

Clearly you know nothing about NHS dentistry

There are three tiers of payment - we always pay those tiers via the NHS

See link below - NHS dentistry is not free if you are not on benefits!!!

How much will I pay for NHS dental treatment?

Find out about NHS dental costs and what’s included in each band of fixed charges.

Bit harsh

Not "hars" BUT TOTALLY WRONG

NHS dentist has a 3 tier charge - so I am guessing Starmer uses a NHS dentist but pays for domestic wor

Dont forget Starmer said he and his family would not go "private" in the previous debate

DSC is a paid for employee. Who knows if she/he’s even based in the UK. Of course they don’t understand the complexities of UK dentistry.

You can tell by the style of writing that English isn’t their first language or is quite new to them. It’s almost weirdly robotic. The phraseology etc is ‘off’.

Not that being from outside the UK is wrong, but you have to question why such a person would be pushing so hard for a political party. Especially one that is anti immigrant.

bombastix · 12/06/2024 21:31

Starmer won that comfortably; Sunak just carried on being toast. There is a kind of desperation around him, and the audience were hostile to him from the off

FiveFoxes · 12/06/2024 21:35

I have an NHS dentist, but have to pay for the hygienist privately. As does the rest of my family including my children.

The NHS pays the dentist to poke your teeth and tell you 'you have a plaque build up there' and then he recommends you see the hygienist. The hygienist is private dental treatment.

bombastix · 12/06/2024 21:40

Well I doubt it’s going to change too many minds. But the audience was angry with Sunak. Those questions were brutal.

Good format! More sessions like this would be good.

allowstatistical · 12/06/2024 21:44

Dont forget, in the previous live debate between Starmer, Sunak -
Starmer clearly stated hw, his wife, his family do not use private HC and his "DNA" is with the NHS

NHS is in my DNA too. I abhor private healthcare. But there's no NHS dentists where I live so I'm stuck really. I have to pay when I need something doing but I'm bloody furious about it. I got the same vibes from KS really. Most people equate private healthcare with medicine/ hospitals etc. people have stopped seeing dentists / opticians as NHS or private these days, they're almost separate from it all.

His helicopter will be standing by.

Parked up next to Starmer's private jet no doubt.

I do the same thing. It might have been what Starmer meant.

The number one reason children aged 6 to 10 are admitted to hospital is tooth decay and the poorest children are 3.5 times more likely to be admitted than the most affluent.

14 years of Tory government and this is where we are.
What a disgrace.

This is the real story tonight.

bombastix · 12/06/2024 21:53

I think Sunak’s appearance (though he didn’t mess anything up) will have created more Reform voters. He is actively turning people off; it is very unusual to see an active decline in the polls of people intending to vote Conservative, but it is dropping by a point or more each week the campaign goes on. Dire

Yes and Starmer's anger about that seemed genuine to me.

bombastix · 12/06/2024 21:55

Well it is disgusting. Food banks and holes in children’s teeth are the best growth industries the UK has.

This has been the case for a quite a while hasn't it? Kids eating sugar laden drinks and sweets plus parents not enforcing brushing is a major issue too.

bombastix · 12/06/2024 22:00

No. Very much a special Conservative growth industry, lack of dentistry for children.

Odd that kids’ teeth were so much better when there were still enough NHS dentists for everyone to have one.

Churchview · 12/06/2024 22:06

79% of dentists are unable to take on new NHS child patients.
50 million missed dental appointments since lockdown.
Chronic underfunding and a dearth of accessible dental services, exacerbating the shortage of dentists willing to accept NHS patients.
There are not enough dentists (Brexit partly to blame).

Wow that's a disgrace.

However, he promised tax cuts, money for everyone and everything so the Tory faithful will no doubt be happy.
