The Tories manifesto - nothing new

As you'd expect from almost any polictian/s in the world, total and utter BS!!

I would ask them, what's new and what were you doing at number 10 for the last 15 years!!!

Sadly, pathetic as it is, the alternative is even more seriously hideous and will put the workers at a massive risk of higher taxes, homeowners lumbered with massive, green agenda taxes and VAT on your child if you want them to do really well at school via private education that many make many sacrifices to send their kids to a better school for a better future!!

Key points from Tory party manifesto from tax cuts and new GPs to Rwanda

Rishi Sunak unveiled the Conservatives' offer to the public this morning, covering tax cuts and a boost to GPs.

a reminder of the 2019 Manifesto.

Promises: 42.
Delivered: 2, and 1 of those only partially.

In addition, Tories have reneged, reversed, or abandoned 362 policies pledges and promises.

The Tories manifesto - nothing new

Why does this sound like it was written by Conservative Central Office?

coffeandteav · 11/06/2024 20:23

'Why does this sound like it was written by Conservative Central Office?'

True! The standard tory response ' but labour'

BurbageBrook · 11/06/2024 20:32

The alternative is not worse than the Tories. By any stretch. You are brainwashed.

'VAT on your child if you want them to do really well at school via private education that many make many sacrifices to send their kids to a better school for a better future!!'
As the 90 percent of other parents obviously don't want their children to do well.

Please stop being deliberate obtuse!!

Why are you saying that "90p percent of other parents don't want..."
You have a link to back that up??

PP isn't saying that. PP is saying that you are implying it by saying that private school parents work harder, make sacrifices etc. so that their DC can get a better future. Which implies that state school parents do not work hard, make sacrifices or want a better future for their DC. And that isn't true - it's just that private school is out of reach financially for the vast, vast majority of parents, no matter how bloody hard they work. Open your eyes to the real world.

7% of children attend private school, ergo 93% don’t. I don’t think there’s a link needed for simple maths.

"Councils are moving people out of London and need to do this more often as their are areas in the north of England that have many empty properties - just google it"

14 years of failed housing policy under the Conservatives, and the inevitable result of Thatcher's ideologically driven and economically short sighted Right To Buy. Where are we now? With London councils having to collectively pay £900 million pounds A MONTH to cover the costs of temporary housing.

If you want to know where your council tax is going - that's where.

And the 'solution'? Councils engaging in economic cleansing out of utter desperation- forcing low income families to yank their kids out of school and away from their communities and support networks. Presumably resulting in some of these families also having to leave their jobs. It's bloody awful.

It’s very light on helping schools

You can say that again

From the IFS

The Conservatives have committed to protect day-to-day school spending per pupil in real terms. Doing the minimum implied by this commitment would mean that per-pupil spending in 2029 was at the same real-terms level as it was in 2010 - nearly two decades with no growth in school resources per pupil.

The "solution" (part of it) is that the gov stops selling taxpayer funded social housing at 60% discounts!!!

We pay higher taxes and have (much) worse public services than we did in 2010.

I agree.

And build much more social housing, stop no fault evictions, & tax second home ownership out of existence.

MrsSkylerWhite · 11/06/2024 20:58

Oh for goodness’ sake, stop it. You’ve been found out.

If you are thinking of voting for Labour, how do you feel about them taxing pensions? Something that has never ever been done in the Uk until now?

Pensions have always been taxed above the personal allowance.

It's only state pension has never risen above it.

Tatcher the Tory brought in the selling off at massive discounts social housing and fully supported by the Labour gov. The process was fully taken up by voters of all political persuaions

Normally before a General Election the farm gates of the South West of England are plastered with Vote Tory posters.

Having spent the last week traveling through Dorset and South Somerset I didn't see one Vote Tory poster. Plenty of Vote Green......not one Vote Tory.

Something has shifted.

izimbra · 11/06/2024 21:55

"The process was fully taken up by voters of all political persuaions"

It would be bizarre if working class people turned their noses up at the prospect of owning a property at a huge discount.

But as with any policy - the devil is in the detail. The biggest problem with RTB was the Tory policy which stopped councils using the proceeds of sales to build more social homes, until they'd cleared their debts.

Labour introduced a policy setting out that "properties purchased after January 2005 could no longer immediately be placed on the open market should the owner decide to sell. Such owners now had to approach their previous landlord (council or housing association) and offer them the right of first refusal." Big flaw in the initial policy that was particularly damaging in London.

None here either, deep in the heart of blue country. Even more surprising is the lack of Reform posters, it was very UKIPy here at one point.

"We pay higher taxes and have (much) worse public services than we did in 2010."

Because national debt has nearly doubled since 2010 a higher proportion of Government spending has to go on interest payments. Also the UK population has grown increased by 10 % since 2010.

izimbra · 11/06/2024 22:43

"Also the UK population has grown increased by 10 % since 2010."

And as a result of this we have higher tax revenues, so why are public services so much worse than in 2010?

Because the money got filtered off to useless things like bigger and better toys for those that can afford them instead of being invested into public services

The Brexit promises and support didn’t materialise. The farmers have realised the Tories shafted them.
