General election 2024

Keir, what do you think?

Labour will win this General Election but I don’t think Sir Keir will be party leader a year from now because there are many amongst Labour MP’s who will want to be more radical. Who would you like to see as leader of the Labour Party a year from now and why?

@ActivePeony i agree. No one can change biological sex. You’re preaching to the converted.
That they throw a few cynical crumbs to GC women is just par for the course.

fromtheshires · 06/06/2024 21:26

Jesus. Why does every thread on mumsnet have to end up with women are women, men are men and toilets being banded about 🙄.

I swear i could start a thread on fish and chips and it would somehow result in an argument over toilets.

Lonelycrab · 06/06/2024 21:27

I think anyone who gets to the position of prime minister is by default extraordinary

The thought that Liz the lettuce will receive a ton of our taxpayer money for her 6 weeks of failure is bloody depressing.

Can’t find confirmation of whether she’s taking that money or not, but expect she will.

Yes why would users of a forum predominantly for women be arsed about the fact that a crazed group of ideologues are redefining the word woman to include men. it's truly a mystery...🤔

I wouldn't doubt it for a second.

It’s an obsession. That and school fees.

But I was called pathetic and rude for the owl comment. 🤔

No, I said the comment was pathetic and rude. Not you.

It's not an obsession to be concerned about the safety of women and girls.

Of course it’s not, bringing it into every thread is.

Lonelycrab · 06/06/2024 22:18

Putin must be really happy

I expect Putin is more than happy enough with Cummings, Lebedev, Banks, Johnson, Nigel Garage et al, and the property market and money laundering facilities London has offered him.

He’s probably quite happy with some of the utter drivel on this thread too.

The hard left are biding their time - they will never give up.

Well we have seen the effects of a hard right Tory?UKIP takeover, they never give up do they?

So other than posting the same old shit all over mumsnet, what have you done to prevent it?

Can you back your rhetoric with action, or is it all empty words like most of posters on this issue?

Everyone can see what you said. And yet silent when a Labour voting poster labelled a politician a rabbit in the headlights. Funny that isn't it? 🤔

I thought this thread was about Starmer?

On the contrary - I think it feels more and more like 1984 with every day that passes.

That's life under the Tories for you.

Fret not. We will be rid of them soon.

It was but if you start moaning about the “hard left” it’s inevitable that it will be countered with reference to the “hard right”. It works both ways.

i think the sleaze and corruption will die down but the country won’t actually improve much

IClaudine · 06/06/2024 22:39

Why has @Lovepeaceunderstanding not come back to the thread? Too busy putting up posters of Farage, perhaps,?

This thread has been hilarious. Thanks in particular to @DistinguishedSocialCommentator @ActivePeony and darling @Bymrsjeeves for giving me a good laugh tonight. I hope you will all be here on GE night.

(I bet you won't be).

Nat6999 · 06/06/2024 22:54

He is what the country needs, slow, steady & sensible. He isn't wanting to make loads of money for himself, he has a social conscience & actually cares about how things are done.

I've gone back five party leaders, none have been thrown under the bus.

Kinnock resigned after loosing the election. Smith died. Blair chose to resign. Brown resigned after loosing an election. Corbyn resigned after loosing an election.

I don't rule out the fact that four of the five may have been leaned on to encourage them to go, but by and large, the Labour party doesn't tend to publicly oust leaders.

look, for comparison at the last five Tory leaders. Cameron resigned after loosing the Brexit vote. May was forced out. Johnson was forced out. As Was Truss. Sunak is hanging on by the skin of his teeth. But will, I think, resign, if he looses the upcoming election.

You have missed Ed Miliband.

frankentall · 06/06/2024 23:14

I watched the McLibel documentary on Youtube tonight. A young KS helping two people pro bono because the odds were stacked against them. A really decent thing to do.

Who resigned the day after losing a general election.

Keir. I'd like to see some bloody stability for a few years now - instead of the game of musical chairs we've seen in recent years.

I thought this thread was about Starmer?

Yes, it is. Remind me who didn't run away from the D-Day commemorations yesterday, and who didn't initially refuse to attend at all?

Starmer is someone who understands that as a PM, you have international obligations and can't just do what the hell you want.
