General election 2024

Keir, what do you think?

Lovepeaceunderstanding · 06/06/2024 16:04

Labour will win this General Election but I don’t think Sir Keir will be party leader a year from now because there are many amongst Labour MP’s who will want to be more radical. Who would you like to see as leader of the Labour Party a year from now and why?

Knighthoods date far further back than the British Empire. Don’t they teach history these days?

Ah no stop. Honestly. You and I know that knights were the most elite soldiers. Back in the day. Certainly not men of the people.

How Starmer can guff on about how he is ‘for the working people’ when he has accepted an award that separates him from the ordinary man. It’s too ironic, the fact none of you wish to see that, says it all. Tone deaf.

ActivePeony · 06/06/2024 20:17

StripedPiggy · 06/06/2024 20:13

Assuming he wins the expected landslide, Starmer will be the conquering hero. He will Labour leader & PM at least until the next election, which will be due in summer 2029, and probably for as long as he wants to.

Labour is not, and has never been, anything like as ruthless or fratricidal as the Tories. They just don’t do knifing their leaders, Blair was leader for 13 years & PM for 10 despite being loathed by the Left, & the disastrous invasion of Iraq. Corbyn was leader for 4.5 years, despite being completely useless, unelectable and a threat to national security.

Yes very true re Labour not dumping leaders but I am worried about Starmer's stickability - hunch really.

Alfreddoeblin · 06/06/2024 20:12

I think Starmer couldn’t believe how much our so called PM was showing himself up. Gobsmacked more like.
Rishi Sunak fast moving ? Yup, back to California.

In my judgement, socialist Starmer had the rug pulled out from under him when he was challenged about Britain's nuclear deterrent and Starmmer's best mate, Angela Rayner

Glad you agree.

Well - there it is I guess. At least everyone can see what you really think:

ActivePeony · Today 20:15
Yes all Brexit voters are thick twats and anyone who doesn't vote Labour is a Nazi. Everyone has heard it all before. Yawn.

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 06/06/2024 20:14

LOL, funny post but the socialist Starmmer had no answers and that is a fact.

A fact that many see coming if Labour slips in via the back door with coalitions partner/s is - Good, old, Anglea Rayner won't be stating in the wings for too long as she has massive left wing support and they will see it as their only chance to have their own way,

It's been made clear on this thread that it's the Tory party who tend to backstab and replace their leaders, not Labour. But you are of course free to believe what you want.

In the extremely unlikely event that we end up with a coalition, that will be afully legitimate outcome from our democratic process. When the electorate does not want to give a single party a governing mandate, they vote accordingly and so we get coalitions. They're very common in many countries across the world, especially where there's proportional representation. If it does happen after the GE, the Labour party will have got into a coalition in a way that is completely legitimate. To describe it as 'by the back door' is to fundamentally disrespect British democracy and the United Kingdom's democratic traditions. Are you opposed to democracy?

Exactly. It feels like the grown ups are going to be back in charge. About bloody time too.

I agree. It will be like going back to the early John Major days. A calm and collected adult in charge. One of the better prime ministers (ignoring the rail privatisation) we have had but often overshadowed by the jazz hand types.

And Sunak couldn’t even be bothered to stay in France this afternoon at the D Day commemorations. He’s an embarrassment to our country.

Sir Keir stayed and is all over the media having a chat with Zelensky.

Another self inflicted stab in the eye for Sunak.

🤣🤣 What?? You know that Zelensky and Sunak have an established good relationship, right?

Sunak... "has been warned that he appears to have already handed the mantle of prime minister to Labour leader Sir Keir Starmerwho joined veterans this afternoon in Normandy.

The criticism from Gulf War veteran Colonel Stuart Crawford came after Mr Sunak decided not to attend the major gathering of world leaders with veterans at Omaha Beach this afternoon.

In contrast, Labour leader Sir Keir, who is the odds-on favourite to win the election and be prime minister on 5 July, was at the event, mingling with world leaders including US president Joe Biden, French president Emmanuel Macron and King Charles.

I read that article. It made me like him more. But then I'm a socialist and proud to be one.

@srailfonaidraug I'm not sure that bringing fundamentalist religion into this is wise, it's quite murky enough already. But then I'm an atheist as well as a socialist.

Sunak and Farage both perfect examples of men of the people of course. And BoJo.

Honestly what nonsense.

Alfreddoeblin · 06/06/2024 20:35

@DistinguishedSocialCommentator what’s wrong with Angela Rayner ? She’s the kind of role model that tories love. Difficult background, parents illiterate, teenage mum whose child had epilepsy. Pulled herself up by her bootstraps as they say.
@ActivePeony tory voters say very much the same thing about Angel Rayner. Disgusting classist claptrap.

srailfonaidraug · 06/06/2024 20:36

Ah right, can’t bring myself to click on any link to the swivel-eyed, red-tory guardian but I see what you mean.

You are definitely a Labour disciple when your response is to say

but but the tories

rather than provide a constructive retort. 🤷‍♀️

Alfreddoeblin · 06/06/2024 20:37

Ah yes multimillionaire men of the people. Bankers. Toffs. Never met a working class person in their lives apart from the ones who clean their toilets. Give us a break.
Let’s discuss what’s actually important. Their record. The £13k tax bill on every household. Brexshite.

BIossomtoes · 06/06/2024 20:38

Wouldn’t it be lovely if we could actually have a political discussion that didn’t descend into yah, boo, sucks and cheap attempts at point scoring? Too much to hope for, I guess.

Lonelycrab · 06/06/2024 20:38

socialist Starmer

This really doesn’t carry the weight as an insult like you think it does. Reds under the bed etc etc 🥱

it’s not 1984 anymore.

Anyone with the slightest clue about UK politics will understand that KS is further to the right than any of his predecessors.

Indeed. As per my reply to Adam.

The D-Day snub is just yet another example of Rishi's horrifically poor judgement. He's just clueless.

Yes we all do, as does Sir Keir who has been to Kiev several times. I’m pointing out that leaving the D Day commemorations early was disrespectful. I mean we all know he’s a liar but his behaviour today just about sums up Sunak’s morals.

Even the political editor of The Sun thinks Sunak leaving early was a mistake. 😂

Indeed! Pop over to the long standing conservative voters thread. Thats quite civilised apart from a couple of people but it was nipped in the bud very fast.

I think that when you look at the tone and wording of the OP, it’s going to be difficult to find that on a thread like this.

The socialist Starmer needs to look up the definition of what a "socialist" is!!

Look up what the Socialist Worker had to say😂
