General election 2024

Keir, what do you think?

Lovepeaceunderstanding · 06/06/2024 16:04

Labour will win this General Election but I don’t think Sir Keir will be party leader a year from now because there are many amongst Labour MP’s who will want to be more radical. Who would you like to see as leader of the Labour Party a year from now and why?

I think that poster who called LOJ may well have been right - angry, privileged, hard left inadequate coming along to sort out the thicko women who don't think Jezza is the second coming.

BIossomtoes · 08/06/2024 17:59

No point in arguing with that. All you’ll get are insults.

There's nothing hypocritical about pointing out your lack of manners.

Your presumption that those of us who appreciate and support Starmer are somehow morally or intellectually deficient is arrogant. You come across like a religious zealot.

There’s nothing ill-mannered about pointing out your hypocrisy. Nor is there any fanaticism in telling the truth about those myopic enough to believe they have to be right because their position is their only hope, despite evidence of it being a protection racket for the status quo.

Why are we hypocritical just because we disagree with you?

What evidence do you have of a 'protection racket for the status quo'?

Why are you the sole arbiter of the truth?

What are you trying to say, exactly? Do you believe that Starmer is in league with someone to preserve the status quo? Who or what is that someone?

I may be overly suspicious, but I am sensing an undercurrent to your posts that I really do not like.

I'd like to know what @srailfonaidraug would suggest as an alternative. Because we have FPTP, our options for change are limited. A vote for the Socialist Workers Party (or whatever) is effectively a vote to retain the status quo.

Lonelycrab · 08/06/2024 18:40

It would appear this poster thinks they areConfused

I’m not sure what @srailfonaidraug is trying to achieve here. These posts are now scanning like a load of ranty, shouty, petulant teenager nonsense, imo.

IClaudine · 08/06/2024 18:45

I think that the only thing @srailfonaidraug is achieving is uniting left and right on this thread against their rudeness!

This video below is only 2 mins long and is absolutely brilliant, explains by another barrister what Keir was doing the other night

I spotted a comment from a well-known former BBC correspondent in your link - I think he sums it up better than the barrister;

Hugh Sykes
@ HughSykes
But he hasn't hung himself with it. The £2,000 accusation is simple and memorable- & everyone's talking about 24 hours later. The detail and the Treasury letter make it too complicated for election-weary brains. On that topic: Sunak 1 Starmer 0

Notonthestairs · 08/06/2024 19:03

Brexit & Johnson truly poisoned the well.

Let's all celebrate lies. What a win for this country.

ActivePeony · 08/06/2024 13:12

I understand why he would have voted leave, because of the imperialist control of the EU, not because he's a racist like the others

Why do you assume that everyone else bar St Jeremy who voted Leave is a racist?

I said "like THE others", not "like ALL others"

Keir proved time and time again that he is far from a decent man. He lied and manipulated to get to where he is... and he continues to purge the party of those who even mildly disagree with him... particularly women of colour.

Getting rid of far left anti-semites is a plus in my book - their colour and sex is irrelevant to me.

Colour and sex is irrelevant to you... well that says it all really.

However, in the vanishingly unlikely event that there is a hung parliament resulting in a coalition with Labour leading it, that would be a completely legitimate outcome of the electoral process. It happens when the electorate does not wish to give a single party a mandate to govern and it is the norm in many countries where voting is by proportional representation. To say that this is 'getting in by the back door' is to show a fundamental respect for British democracy and British values. Are you [pp] opposed to democracy?

But I remember you signing a petition in an attempt to stop Theresa May forming a coalition arrangement with the DUP in 2017. It seems you only like democracy when it's going your way.

Alfreddoeblin · 06/06/2024 18:37

Agree that he and Rachel Reeves have not promised a land of milk and honey. Far from it. In fact some labour supporters are thoroughly pissed off that he’s not being aspirational enough.
The scaremongering about Rayner and the hard left taking over is pure rubbish. Especially when earlier in the week the same posters were banging on about him being authoritarian. He simply cannot win.
Don't get the hated for Angela Rayner. It’s pure snobbery. Only certain types of wc people seem to be acceptable, mainly the ones that know their place.

Nothing to do with snobbery at all, everything to do with her constant holier-than-thou swipes and carping for resignations.

But mostly because anyone who calls another person scum - regardless of circumstances - has no place in the House of Commons.

Anyone who is in Government should be able to conduct themselves properly and have the intelligence not to resort to name-calling. Surely that should be a basic requirement?

Nor does someone who makes sexist comments about a woman crossing their legs, so you agree that Boris Johnson shouldn't have had a place in the House of Commons either - yes?

Or we accept that the current tradition of debate in the HoC includes some things that would not be acceptable in normal social discourse and we get over it. Your choice.

You’ve forgotten Johnson calling Starmer a “pointless plastic bollard”? Amongst other things - long serving members of his staff resigned over the Savile jibes.

HRTQueen · 08/06/2024 19:25

BIossomtoes · 08/06/2024 14:47

I can honestly say I have never known a politician to be so idolised as Corbyn

I thought you were old enough to remember Thatcher. I certainly am, hell I just about remember Churchill! 😂

Yes I do remember the Thatcher being idolised

but she did make changes for some that absolutely changes their lives for the better and for many made their lives far worse

Corbyn has no doubt helped people in his constituency but his influence has been what many believed would have been not what it has actually been

And Churchill well though he may be over idolised I can understand this

I just don’t understand the idolisation of someone who has had no real influence

Oh I understand the cut-and-thrust of politics but calling someone scum is several levels worse than a pointless plastic bollard in my opinion. You don't have to agree with me of course.

I don't think any Tory is in a position to lecture on conduct. We've had the most unspeakably poor conduct in evidence from the current lot over the years. Excruciating, and noted so officially.

So, you were not in favour of the co-operation deal that Labour had with Plaid Cymru in Wales? And you would be against any sort of confidence and supply arrangement Starmer might make with the SNP?

It wasn't Boris Johnson who made those comments.

A racist is a racist - a brown female person who is racist should not be treated differently from a white male racist. Because they are both racists and have no place in the LP.
