General election 2024

Keir, what do you think?

Labour will win this General Election but I don’t think Sir Keir will be party leader a year from now because there are many amongst Labour MP’s who will want to be more radical. Who would you like to see as leader of the Labour Party a year from now and why?

I understand why he would have voted leave, because of the imperialist control of the EU, not because he's a racist like the others

Why do you assume that everyone else bar St Jeremy who voted Leave is a racist?

ActivePeony · 08/06/2024 13:14

Keir proved time and time again that he is far from a decent man. He lied and manipulated to get to where he is... and he continues to purge the party of those who even mildly disagree with him... particularly women of colour.

Getting rid of far left anti-semites is a plus in my book - their colour and sex is irrelevant to me.

HRTQueen · 08/06/2024 14:34

I can honestly say I have never known a politician to be so idolised as Corbyn

Everything that may be considered negative is a lie (mainly by the establishment) or a twisted truth and everyone else is dismissed as a foolish idiot manipulated by the establishment

i would say anyone who claims they have spent their life campaigning against racism but dismisses time and time again the impact of anti semitism in the party they were leader of at the time is a hypocrite

I thought you were old enough to remember Thatcher. I certainly am, hell I just about remember Churchill! 😂

Agreed, the Thatcher worship at the time was nauseating.

And there were things I liked about Corbyn. He had policies and ideas that sat outside the standard Red Tory/Blue Tory divide. I'm also realist enough to know that those policies would never fly in a country like the UK - he is a social democrat and would have fit seamlessly into politics in the Nordic countries. The UK psyche is very different, far more 'every man for himself and devil take the hindmost'. And that won't change, sadly.

srailfonaidraug · 08/06/2024 15:12

Those failing to question the cognitive abilities of folk who insist on praising Starmer in spite of his reneged pledges and failures to oppose numerous blatantly unjust tory policies, whilst still lambasting Corbyn (after all this time) for not taking a stand against democracy - especially amidst those deliberately-orchestrated smear campaigns - has a head full of the stuff that comes out the north end of a steer headed south.

As for the Clampetts who keep bleating that “ideology doesn’t win elections” garbage, that’s the problem right there fools. What should be winning elections doesn’t get a look in because it’ll upset the corrupt liars who continue to exploit and asset-strip. You might as well say seatbelts don’t save lives because they stop people getting out of their cars.

Can’t fix stupid is right, especially stupid that thinks it can polish a turd.

I'm not sure what you're trying to achieve with your posts, to be honest. You're not making any effort to convince the rest of us with arguments; you just call us names and cast aspersions on our intelligence. You have a good and creative vocabulary, I'll give you that, but apart from that you come across as a lot of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

And I know you aren't typical of a Corbyn supporter, because the ones who are my friends are nothing like you and would never be so hideously rude.

stripycats · 08/06/2024 15:26

I read that Rosie Duffield article and was pleased to see that she acknowledges Labour has moved in the right direction regarding protecting women's rights and spaces. I was also pleasantly surprised to see her referring to Wes Streeting as a friend. I'm not sure why, in the middle of an election, she has chosen to publicly criticise the leader of the party she is running for, but there you go. I'm glad she's running though and I hope she keeps her seat so she can be heard in the next parliament supporting women's rights.

Hmmm, clearly too triggered for the “I disagree” that is the sum total of your bleat.

dontcallmelen · 08/06/2024 15:40

Agree Stripeycats also with Pointythings
im not sure either what you are trying achieve srailonaidruag you come across as very aggressive at times, I agreed with many of Corbyn manifesto ideas like a post upthread I can’t ever really see the British psyche shifting very much unfortunately either, do I see Starmer as the saviour of us no I don’t but I’d much rather have him than the bunch of immoral lying grifters that we have in government currently.

Rudeness isn’t necessary. It’s no more convincing than the remainder of your posts.

srailfonaidraug · 08/06/2024 15:56

I make no apology for my arguments, especially not for the benefit of those who seek to reduce points raised to a matter of sanctimonious disapproval of semantics.

We all have our own ways of expressing ourselves and my posts do not contain foul language.

If you can’t summon up a better counter to my opinions than regurgitated tripe and faux-morality, just move on.

We weren't expecting an apology from you, sweetheart. We weren't even expecting a dose of realism from you. I'm sorry that your hero hasn't made it to Prime Minister. And actually, I really am - I had high hopes in 2017. But we're here now and the focus has to be getting the Tories out. Wishful thinking about St Jeremy isn't going to achieve that, and I have a disabled young adult child to think about.

When did he promise people a land of milk and honey? I must have missed that.

I want crunchy nut cornflakes now

Exactly @pointythings

I liked JC and was gutted at the 2019 GE outcome. But the reality is that the electorate in England disliked his offerings. Too left wing for their tastes.

I never said Corbyn was my hero, just sick and tired of hearing the same old negative trope against him now being used to tout Starmer as the way forward in the same manner as the tories, who went on to get us where we are now, used it for their election campaigns.

Tories out sounds great, shame the realism about the difference between them and Starmer isn’t.

Thing is, there are very few people who think Keir Starmer is some kind of saviour figure. But if you really think that Keir Starmer is going to be exactly the same in his policies, his leadership and his behaviour as the Tories, you haven't been paying attention. He's a centrist politician and you don't like that because you sit on the left. That's absolutely fine and valid. However, you have absolutely no call to throw a lot of vituperation at those of us who disagree with you. I am not a sheep, I do not bleat and I have been a great deal more courteous than you have on this thread. Maybe if you apologise for your (eloquent) namecalling, you'll get a better dialogue.

Gtfto2024 · 08/06/2024 16:57

I only know one person who was full on momentum. They were and are the nicest person who knows exactly what they hope to achieve. They have sensible well thought out arguments and strong beliefs.

They are now a local Councillor channelling that energy and achieving things for their community. They dont sound like @srailfonaidraug either.

Well, exactly. Two of my best friends were full on Momentum - but they are absolutely voting to get their local Tory out. They also both do a lot of good work in their community.

No, thing is you’ve promoted yourself to a position of telling me what I am whilst blatantly ignoring what Starmer’s been telling you what he is all along…because you’re playing to the consensus of the other Starmerroids in the gallery. The ones who’ll predictably give your insipid condescension a free pass while whingeing about hope rude I am simply because they agree with your ideological position.

Hypocrisy, another recognisable Starmer trait.

There's nothing hypocritical about pointing out your lack of manners.

Your presumption that those of us who appreciate and support Starmer are somehow morally or intellectually deficient is arrogant. You come across like a religious zealot.
