I like Ed Davey

Does anybody feel really cheered up by Ed Davey, the leader of the Lib Dems?

I hadn't heard of him before last week, but I love the photos and I really feel so grateful to him for the interview he did on ITV:

https://www.itv.com/news/2024-06-03/sir-ed-davey-opens-up-on-juggling-lib-dem-leadership-and-caring-for-teenage-son

I start to think that he and Keir Starmer would be an absolute knock-out combination if they had a coalition.

I would also love a majority Labour Government. Both good.

He's another self-serving politician feeding his own ego. All these current photo opportunities - he is actively trying to get a "Ed Milliband eats bacon sandwich" photo for publicity. He's my local MP and I've messaged him a number of times about local issues. He really doesn't give a shit.

Scruffily · 04/06/2024 17:45

I have in general been pretty impressed by the work he has done particularly in relation to education. Possibly because of personal experience, he comes over as someone who genuinely cares but who also has some practical solutions in terms of proposed policies.

I also think the Lib Dems' proposals in relation to funding care make a lot of sense, not least in terms of taking pressure off the NHS.

Acknowledging a disabled child is one thing and appropriate, but other than that the child should have privacy.

I want the Lib Dems to gain seats from the Tories where there is no chance of a win for any other party, but Ed Davey is not someone I especially warm to.

Anniegetyourgun · 04/06/2024 18:39

Current bunch only want to know what a woman is so they can be sure they've got the right one chained to the kitchen sink. It's not rights or safety they're interested in.

hattie43 · 04/06/2024 18:49

No , isn't he the one who ignored the post office staff .

Andipxs · 04/06/2024 19:15

Yeah, no.
didn’t he refuse to apologise for his part the post office scandal?

Nat6999 · 04/06/2024 20:37

I'm hoping that the Lib Dems win enough seats to be the official opposition, I haven't seen any on the toxicity that we have seen with the tories from them since Ed Davey took over as leader.

God help us all if this happens.

I’d quite like that too. It’s not going to happen though.

Bingoishername · 04/06/2024 21:42

He's a total wally and he should have resigned over the Post Office!

I had a LD at my door. I raised the issue of whether sex matters. He said it wasn't important, and no-one else was bothered. Thanks for that.

I did too and the man dismissed it but the woman accompanying him said it was an issue that was being brought up a lot!

I think I'm voting Lib Dem because I want to get the Tories out - but only because they won't win overall. I definitely don't want Davey as PM! Sad state of affairs...

RoobarbAndMustard · 07/06/2024 13:38

The Lib Dem's think TWAW would make getting a GRC easier.
They have been bullying out GC women from the party
Look at the case of Natalie Bird

I wouldn't trust them and think they're a bunch of 'Willy wets' quote from my DM. They could be useful in winning a few seats off the Tories in the old blue wall though.

If you care about the rights of women and girls, please don’t vote for the LibDems. LibDems tried to silence their own women members at conference by not allowing them space for their Liberal Voice for Women stand. (Look on YouTube for Liberal Voice for Women) They don’t give a shit about women.

Most LibDem candidates are men. And many of those who are recorded as women are in fact men. I seriously think it’s a Handmaid’s Tale scenario for women if we don’t object to this situation where men are prioritised over women. I don’t think men should fill quotas for women. Quotas that exist because women are underrepresented in that area. And I don’t think they should be allowed to compete in the women’s category in sports.

Why is it impossible for trans women to accept the reality that they can’t change sex? Why is shielding them from that reality more important than the rights of all women and girls?

BIossomtoes · 11/06/2024 09:41

Which ones? Can you give a few examples of these many candidates?

Chersfrozenface · 11/06/2024 09:43

The Lib Dems won't be in power in the next few cycles, but they could have a role in pushing for proportional representation, which may help us out as a nation, by removing the 2 party status quo.

That would be interesting, given that in the latest opinion polls more people intended to vote for the Reform Party (14%) than for the Lib Dems (10%).

TeenagersAngst · 11/06/2024 09:46

OP only heard of him a couple of weeks ago but wants his party to be in government. Right....

VinnieVanDog · 11/06/2024 09:51

If this is a way of polling for the Lib Dems you can put me down as a 'When hell freezes over'.

Rebecca Jones, Helen Belcher, ask the LibDems about it. They have far more men than women standing and some of the apparent women are trans women, ie men.

He's a misogynist, so that's a no from me.

He is my local MP, and I find him smug and pretty ineffectual on the whole

Interesting. My old mum (85), lifelong Labour voter (except when the choice was Corbyn) has always found him proactive and effective in the constituency.

SmugglersHaunt · 11/06/2024 11:01

He looks like a Cornish pasty with no filling. He doesn't know what a woman is. He's an idiot.

FolkestoneMassive · 11/06/2024 11:29

I certainly won’t be voting for the women hating LibDems. Not that they are in with a shout of winning in my constituency.

You lose your argument with insults about a person’s physical appearance.

Neither of those candidates has a cat in hell’s chance of being elected according to Electoral Calculus. Any examples of candidates who aren’t tokens?
