Secure Detention for Asylum Seekers in.... Gibraltar or Falkland Islands!!

In anticipation of a Reform candidate canvassing at my door I took a look at their draft manifesto. Under immigration they plan to process asylum seekers that reach the UK through safe countries in British Overseas Territories. Given that there's only 14 of them I'm interested to ask the next Reform campaigner I meet which ones they would send them to. Not much space in Gibraltar & the Falklands are a long way away!

Oh, so it didn't actually state Gibraltar/Falkland Islands then?

Smashedavacado · 27/05/2024 09:24

OhHelloMiss it didn't actually specify but given that there are only 13 others many of which are in the Caribbean the choices aren't great. Was just demonstrating the craziness of their proposal.

I wonder what these other cou8ntries think of the plan?
Or would we just given them millions of money to agree to this? It worked with Rwanda.

Feelingstrange2 · 27/05/2024 16:06

Ask them to name the 14. Play Reform Bingo.

It's less stupid and less costly than Rwanda. Note they say process, so an asylum seeker could have their claim accepted, no questions about if it is a safe country.

Would increase the average IQ in the Falkland Islands (allegedly).

YourPinkDog I'm not sure that some of these places would be as accepting of the millions as Rwanda - countries like Bermuda & Cayman Islands for example. Others like British Antarctic Territory aren't entirely practical!
Feelingstrange2 that's a plan!
LlynTegid I agree that some of these countries could be a better alternative to Rwanda but I just wonder which of the 14 would actually accept the proposal.
