To think the UK will become a barren, post-apocalyptic, dystopian, hell-scape if Labour win?

Fiftypencepiece · 24/05/2024 13:02

AIBU to be worried that within 2-3 years of a Labour victory, the UK will become a barren, post-apocalyptic, dystopian hell-scape?

Kier Starmer seems like a mad, leftist radical to me. It starts with VAT on school fees but where does it end???

I’m also really concerned that the imminent collapse of civilisation will have a big impact on house prices, and leave us in negative equity.

Anyone else?

I think you are supposed to say that this is an advert for the Conservative party.

I think this has gone over your head if you think that. It mocks tories concerned about school fees - it wasn't written by a conservative - it was a parody written by a labour voter.

1questionfromme · 24/05/2024 22:12

Well, yes, things can only get better!

The word on the street is that the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are saddling up as we speak. Prepare for the end of days.

Don't worry. Last I heard, the Four Horsemen now ride side-saddle and carry peppermints in their armor for the horses.

I think maybe my comment may have gone over your head... have you quoted each poster who hasn't started their post with 'I AM BEING SARCASTIC'.

You’re being very optimistic here…..things will be a million times worse than this.

Dymaxion · 24/05/2024 22:21

Is there going to be anyone Conservative to vote for ? So many are stepping down and less than 6 weeks to find replacements !

NeedANewPhone1 · 24/05/2024 22:25

The amount of serious replies to this thread is making me giggle. Surely it's really obvious that it's humour?

Efrogwraig · 24/05/2024 22:25

7% of Brits use private school so not exactly apocalyptic to have VAT on the fees. Not going to set off a revolution.

As the Labour party is also going to sort out water companies & oil/ gas production, l don't see a "barren, post-apocalyptic, dystopian hell-scape".

22.5% of state school pupils are on free school meals. Their family incomes will likely be improved.

2.99 million people use foodbanks. This too will likely decrease.

I think you're being a bit over anxious, @Fiftypencepiece

Yes, Sir Starmer is the very definition of radical leftie 🙄

Steer Calmer.
You heard it here first.

FortunataTagnips · 24/05/2024 22:28

May 24, 2024 will go down in history as the day 76% of Mumsnetters revealed themselves as either thick as fuck or incapable of reading an entire OP. Our democracy is in safe hands!

Clarabella77 · 24/05/2024 22:32

Edit: oops I missed the parody. . 😊 😁

Describing Keir Starmer as a mad leftist radical is maybe the funniest thing I have read online for a while. He's so far from that he's a hair's breadth from bring a Tory.

Comments like this are just proof that not enough people dig into policies and pledges and make lazy assumptions based on party colours.

Also, do you not remember when Labour were last in charge? Child poverty levels were significantly reduced, among other things.

Whereas we've seen things very close to dystopia with this current government.
*the car crash that was Brexit and subsequent food shortages
*The shock to the economy following an unfunded radical budget from Liz Truss
f*King Rwanda
*Record levels of people destitute

I could go on. I don't think there are many things Labour could do that would be worse than that. Making businesses masquerading as charities pay a tax that other businesses pay does not compare. It is a fair way to recoup some money for state education, which like all our public services is on its knees.

It was clear after I kept reading, but I have seen people quite sincerely say that Sir Keir is a radical leftist! They've been infected by the same people who think Joe Biden is a socialist. If only!

Hhhmm so nothing will change. And yet
It will degenerate badly until there is a significant change which will be dramatic and outside the permitted current Overton window.

I'm betting it's curtains for the Overton Window but they may twitch a little in their death throws.

Emotionalsupporthamster · 24/05/2024 22:59

Couldn’t agree more OP. I’m terrified about a return to the barren post apocalyptic hellscape of the late 90s/early 2000s when You Know Who was PM.

My best friend literally lost her right leg to a pack of wild dogs in a Virgin Megastore while she was trying to buy a copy of ‘Perfect Moment’ by Martine McCutcheon. She never fully recovered.

We’re beyond socialism or conservatism.

Neither of those will now provide a fair outcome for the public.

Anarchy? Bring it on. Its about time punk had a resurgence.

You forgot to mention that it's an open invitation for an alien invasion; and that it'll be a second Atlantis as we sink beneath the waves.

Will Jason Mamoa be there?!

Angrymum22 · 25/05/2024 00:50

You have to be a special sort of person to be a PM. If Starmer is that special sort of person he will fare no better than any of his predecessors regardless of their politics.
As soon as things take a downturn we will all turn on him. It all depends on his strength of character as to whether he has the balls to work through it.
Starmer does strike me as a bit of a rabbit in headlights kind of guy.
I wonder how long it will be before he is replaced.

shuggles · 25/05/2024 00:50

I’m also really concerned that the imminent collapse of civilisation will have a big impact on house prices, and leave us in negative equity.

Oh no. That means your house will actually be a place to live, rather than some weird financial asset.

Polishedshoesalways · 25/05/2024 06:25

Labour have an unblemished record of total ineptitude when it comes to the economy.

We can all look forward to more time off with the 2/3 days of electricity we will be limited to, industry grinding to a halt, bins overflowing and an IMF bailout.

Thats what happened in the 70s under Labour.

When Labour finally got back in the 90s they oversaw repeated deep and lasting recessions, a housing crash and spent so much money on vanity projects we literally ran out of money when hit by the global financial meltdown!

Labour can not be trusted to manage our finances. There is not a single example in history of Labour fiscal competence!

And you think it’s bad now!
It honestly beggars belief, total amnesia but you do you.

Dymaxion · 25/05/2024 06:47

We can all look forward to more time off with the 2/3 days of electricity

I thought the three day week was during Ted Heaths time ? Including the 1956 recession the Conservatives have been in power during 7 recessions, Labour during 3. Make of that what you will @Polishedshoesalways

Notonthestairs · 25/05/2024 06:54

"I thought the three day week was during Ted Heaths time ?"

It was. Funny how Tory voters always forget that.

Notonthestairs · 25/05/2024 06:54

Actually they don't forget, they deliberately mislead.

Nope James Callaghan was the Labour Party leader in 1976 when a 3 day week was introduced.
