tracing a missing relative in Australia?
tatt · 06/09/2008 20:19
A friend has a half sister that he knows nothing about - except her name and birth date. Those were on his father's RAAF record. He would love to find her.
His father sent his second family to England saying he would follow - he never did. He is now dead and none of the people friend has traced knows what became of his half sister. Any suggestions?

Ancestrory website?
genes reunited?
Facebook?
My stepdad recently made contact with his son who had been taken to Zimbabwe by his mother when he was 4. Think it was genes reunited that finally helped.

He's registered on genes reunited - in fact we've spent a lot of time today adding relatives to increase the chance of a match!
Problem with Facebook or similar is that she would possibly have married. She may even be dead by now, although that's unlikely.

There is a weekly programe running on the Australian Broadcasting Commission at the moment that reunites families. If you look at their web site they might use your friends story. Tilba x

not photogenic enough for tv. He's had a few contacts on genes reunited but they all seem to be distant cousins.
His half sister would be older and therefore possibily not using the net but its too recent to find her mother's maiden name ( he only has Christian names) from online records.

if you want to email me on [email protected] I am in Aus and can see if I can find out anything for you.
I can access things like electoral rolls or school records depending on what state they lived in.

sorry the email that is. Thanks for the info - will keep digging - nothing come to light yet.

Yes the program on Aus tv is called 'Find my family' - they might be able to help you

i am still trying. Have not found anything - may try electoral rolls - might have to go into state library for those.

tatt - I know you said you wanted nothing to do with the TV show BUT in one of the women's magazines there is a small section called - Find your family.
If you want to you can post a query on the website
[email protected] email here
or you can write

Just a thought.

Wanted to say a public thanks for helping with this. I've asked my friend - who is very grateful for what you are doing - if he will go in the magazine or contact the TV show and see if they'd accept a video. He couldn't afford to come to Sydney any time soon even if he was willing to be on TV.

I am sure they would pay for him....sounds like a good story!
