Has anyone paid someone professionally to research a family tree?

My DH would like a family tree done as a gift. Has anyone used a professional they would recommend for this? I don’t have time to do it myself and we got a bit lost with Irish records when we tried a few years ago. Thanks

I haven't and I wouldn't be able to recommend an individual either.

However, having said that, there is a professional body that goes by the name of the Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives (AGRA).

They have a directory of their current members and that may be a good starting point.

A relative of mine paid for one as a gift to another relative and the resulting family tree was shared around the family. I don't know what she paid, but I wasn't very impressed. It looked like it was basically downloaded from Ancestry. It went quite far back in time, but nothing was evidenced, so it didn't look like the researcher had done any real work. I would make sure you are clear on what you are paying for and ask for copies of supporting dicuments. 19th century, when there are census records and birth/marriage/deaths available is genearally easier to research, then it gets much harder. I would expect a reputable researcher to explain this.
