To me, it looks like it says “married on Thursday to…”

“…was married on Thursday to…”

I think it might say 'was married on Xmas day' - does that make sense in the date context?

HelenaWilson · 07/01/2026 19:44

I think Xmas day too.

AlwaysRightISwear · 07/01/2026 19:56

Agree it's Xmas Day

ProfessorBinturong · 07/01/2026 20:44

Yes, definitely Xmas.

Quite a few Christmas Day weddings in my family tree - think it was the only day off the whole family would have had.

As well as being a day off, many vicars offered free services or reduced prices that day.

Sometimes it helps to compare the lettering with other words that can be deciphered in the same document. By the way, enlarging the image often makes it more blurry and harder to read.
