23 and me bankrupt?

Hi so I saw in the news today that genetic testing site 23 and me has filed for bankruptcy protection and I can't find any threads on this. Does anyone have any idea what that means for those of us who are on there? Should we be deleting our data, as recommended by the State of California, or is it all a fuss over nothing? I'm not sure whether it's time to move over to Ancestry or if I should stick with 23 and me and wait to see what happens.

The company said that it will now attempt to sell itself under the supervision of a court.

The financial distress could mean that they won't be able to continue to protect your sensitive data, (dna data.). The court is advising users to delete their data. I would follow that advice.

23 and me, may be more vulnerable to a cyber track. Genetic data is valuable. You could be a victim of identity fraud. I suggest you delete your data.

It certainly does look like I'm going to have to start again on Ancestry. I never did find any paternal relatives on 23 and me (adopted, no father's details at all) so maybe I'll have better luck on Ancestry.

I’m sorry that you’ve never been able to find your Paternal relatives but I agree that deleting your genetic data from 23&me sounds like sound advice.

Wishing you better luck with Ancestry Flowers

How do you delete your data? Is this just deleting your account? cos i presume that does not delete your data?

Make sure you download a copy of your files before deleting, then you could upload to My Heritage and start again there without having to do another DNA test.

I would have expected 23 and Me to contact you with advice though.
