How different would my life have been in Blackburn vs Aylesbury?

So, I was adopted at a really young age.

My biological family (who I have never met) would have raised me in Aylesbury but instead I was adopted and moved to Blackburn, Lancashire.

I hate Blackburn - it’s poor; boring; depressing; inopportune and so much more.

But it’s make me wonder how different my life would be in Aylesbury.

If you have any experience of the two places could you say if Aylesbury is similar to or worse or better than Blackburn in terms of being lively/boring or being opportune or being deprived?

Take it from me Aylesbury is no paradise …! It has the same problems, drugs, deprivation etc as any other market town.
No experience of Blackburn I’m afraid .

Great parents in Blackburn are the same as great parents in Aylesbury.

The same goes for crap ones.

I bet there's not a teenager in the world who thinks their town isn't the worst.

I have no idea what your adoptive parents were like but it's much more important to have good family than a good location. I hope your family was as good as one can hope for.

Hmmm….i don’t know. When I was little (not yet school age) my DF was offered a job with Customs & Excise (as they were then) at Heathrow. He didn’t take it as he hates “down South” 🙄 and stayed in our northern town. The words you use to describe Blackburn are also words I’d put to my hometown.

I think it would have been SO different living in/around London/SE. More jobs, more opportunities, lots of stuff is cheaper/free; travel for one. Everywhere doesn’t close at 5pm, it’s easier to travel to different places; giving more options for colleges for example.

I lived in the Home Counties for 5 years, then had to come back as both DH & I were made redundant at the same time. They were the happiest 5 years of my life. I only said to DH today that I wished we had stayed. Or at least tried to.

My family are from Blackburn and I grew up nearby. I spent quite a bit of time in Blackburn as a child, I had a Rovers season ticket and met friends there at the ice rink etc.

I now live fairly close to Aylesbury (about 5 miles away) and work with a few clients there.

I don't see either town as dramatically different to be honest. As far as Buckinghamshire towns go, Aylesbury is quite run down and doesn't have the best reputation.

Property prices and the cost of living are significantly higher in Aylesbury. Personally, as an NHS worker, I earned exactly the same salary as I would have in the NW so it was harder to make ends meet/get on the property ladder.
