What do you think this first name is? I can’t make it out at all! She is my great grandmother - I’m assuming it’s a ‘she’ as job title states ‘house duties’. She was born in 1874. Many thanks

Enya? Although that is quite unusual, modern? and Irish maybe.... but at first glance that was the first name that came to me!

Dartmoorcheffy · 09/04/2024 17:13

Eliza

Corinthiana · 09/04/2024 17:13

Anya?

Underthemagnificentbeechtree · 09/04/2024 17:13

Eliza I think.

Twinkletwinklelil · 09/04/2024 17:13

Elija?

Trez1510 · 09/04/2024 17:14

Luiza

There's a dot over one of the letters.

Corinthiana · 09/04/2024 17:15

True. The first letter wouldn't be lower case though. Especially back then. Anja?

WestendVBroadway · 09/04/2024 17:15

Looks like Eliza, can you compare the letters to those in any of the other words?

MargotMoon · 09/04/2024 17:19

Eliza

Why don't you take this over to Gransnet... others there do lots of ancestry research. Also, can you give context to year of this form and country of origin, since writing styles differ.

If you have the full page, the first capital letter may be repeated on another name. I think it might be an A, so maybe Anja?

LIZS · 09/04/2024 17:22

Eliza. Could be shorthand for Elizabeth

PleaseletitbeSpring · 09/04/2024 17:28

Eliza. The dot for the i is a bit far over as it was probably written quickly. The capital E is almost flat on its back. I have done lots of transcribing census records. You'll need to research her using Elizabeth too as often short forms were used in old records.

Thank you so much - definitely starts with an E - I can see Eliza now you’ve said it! I’ll see if I can link her to my grandad. Thank you

Hello just an update- she was Eliza, so I’ve now found my grandads mother. Thanks again.
