Saving my tree on Ancestry.co.uk

I've done a lot of work on my family tree, and am in the process of tidying up some loose ends before ending my subscription this month.
I've managed to download the tree, but what I didn't anticipate is that the file would be a Gedcom file format. I work on a Mac, and am looking around for something to open the file with - has anyone got any clues??

A lot of people who download their family trees from Ancestry use paid for software that replicates the sort of features you get on Ancestry for displaying family trees.

However, if you just want a quick and simple thing (that also works on MacOS, but you do need MacOS version 10.14.4 as a minimum) might I suggest something called Ancestris (ancestris.org)?

If you need something urgently! then this is probably a good, and free, thing to keep you going.

There are various different family tree software programs so that you can download all your stuff from Ancestry onto your own PC (and, I think?, also a Mac - sorry never used one). Here is a review of a number of them, they range in price from about £30 to £70:

A useful free site where you can upload and view your gedcom is https://tribalpages.com

You can password-protect your Tribal Pages page so you can share your tree with relatives who don't have Ancestry or family tree software.

However, it's also a good idea to have your tree in a readable format in a family tree program on your own computer.

I use Family Tree Maker, but there are several others.
