I've recently started working on my maternal family tree using the free version of Ancestry. Before I committ to a subscription are there ever any offers or other sites that people recommend?
Thank you

Now this depends. I use Ancestry as my main database but if your ancestors were in British India or were British military and for other things then FindMyPast is better.

They are the two main ones I recommend. I find MyH too clunky.

Have a look at the current Ancestry DNA offers - it's £49 for the test and they usually offer to throw in several months of the main Ancestry.co.uk subscription too.

The other thing to consider is that where you know your ancestors came from. UK and Ireland is cheaper than Australia or USA!

FMP is expensive and difficult to find very good offers.

I would advise Ancestry as a starting point but as I said, take a look at their Black Friday offers especially their DNA + research offers.

Thank you, that's really helpful. I'm off to check out Ancestry
