Paternal grandfather

My fathers dad was adopted and despite many attempts over the years to trace, we have had no luck. All grandparents are no longer with us

does anyone have any advice? Or suggestions?

DNA will most probably bring up some cousins that will help you to find out roughly who your grandparents were.

Thank you

we know who our grandparents are but can’t trace any further back on my grandfathers side as he was adopted at birth.

Oops sorry, great-grandparents. The tests will throw up cousin matches and you will be able to see which ones you share common names with (so can rule them out!). Ancestry now breaks down the information into maternal and paternal matches which makes things somewhat easier!

I agree with dna. If possible, get your dad to test. Test with ancestry, then upload to other testing sites. If you want to be extra thorough, test with 23andme as well (you can’t upload from Ancestry to 23andme). You may or may not be able to solve your mystery, but it’s likely your best chance of doing so .
