Can anyone help decipher a job from the 1901 census

This chap was my third great grand uncle. He was a tin miner and later a herbalist. Very interested in what being a herbalist would entail in the early 1900's!

But can anyone decipher what job he was doing inbetween? Looks like 'something' agent to me?

If it helps, he was from Cornwall - lots of mining related jobs in my family tree!

Thank you

Assurance

Looks like ‘insurance’ to me

Fizzbo · 02/05/2022 10:19

It looks like insurance agent. They’ve crossed out the first three letters and inserted “ins”.

LetHimHaveIt · 02/05/2022 10:19

Insurance.

Assurance agent

So life insurance sales
As your are guaranteed to die and there will be a payout

Insurance agent. Would he have been going door to door selling policies and collecting the money?

Mamette · 02/05/2022 10:21

Insurance agent, the “ins” is inserted above, as a correction.

NannyR · 02/05/2022 10:23

Some sort of insurance sales. It does look like assurance, with the ass- crossed out and ins- added.

GlamGiraffe · 02/05/2022 10:23

Agree with others. Insuance agent.

I would also go with ‘Insurance agent’. :)
