What do you say when messaging your dna matches?

I’ve got a couple of possible 2nd/3rd cousins that I’d like to message asking if they have any photos of great grandparents etc. But don’t want to come across as rude 😆

I usually write something like Hi, my name is Tomeeornottomee and we have a (whatever percent match) I believe that our common ancestor is granny whatshername. If you would like to view my tree here is the link. I would love to know more about this ancestor and was wondering if you have any stories or photos you would be willing to share. Of course I am happy to share the info I have with you. All the best x

A few haven’t responded but I’ve actually become quite close with at least 2 distant relatives and we enjoy trying to work out exactly what naughty gg granda did when he was on his travels. Good luck

Oh that’s great, thank you so much. Going to try that and hopefully I hear back from them

Don't have your hopes up.
DH messaged people but sadly they never replied. If they had they would have cleared up the issue of his paternity pretty promptly. Instead he had to wait quite some time Sad
But all's well that ends well. Smile
