Help please.
DH is on Ancestry and has got lots of matches.
The closest match with a connected ancestor is Julie. Not their real names.

Julie's daughter, Helen has also matched with DH.
Yet the mother and daughter only have 4 matches in common with DH ?
Julie has 5 other linked matches with herself and DH. Her daughter Helen doesn't share them with DH.
Helen, the daughter has 8 matches shared with DH but not shared with her mother Julie.
How can that happen ?
Is there a perfectly reasonable explanation I am missing ?
I would have thought all the mother's matches with DH would be shared with her daughter ?

Not necessarily. This might help you understand better:

Im not sure i understand your description. Could you draw a diagram?
Are the links ancestestors or how are they related?

LadyEloise1 · 06/02/2022 14:31

If Julie is related to DH and her daughter Helen is related to DH how come all those related to Helen and I are not also down as being related to Julie.

People related to Helen may well be connected via her father's side, not her mother.

LadyEloise1 · 06/02/2022 16:32

But these are people are also related to my dh . Would that be likely ?

I have no idea where the "I" came in in my post at 14.31
How to confuse things even further. 🙄

Cousins marrying several generations ago?

butterflymum · 07/02/2022 12:31

What cM does each of them share with your husband?

Ancestry don't have a chromosone browser, but he could upload his results to somewhere that does eg MyHeritage or suchlike, to see the results broken down further.

They could be linked through different sides of their family - two of my cousins are married so the links are all over the place for their children and mine.

They also might just have differently completed trees (if they both have individual trees).
