Can anyone recommend the website for tracing Irish ancestors, particularly when you have little information to begin with.

Have you tried the Irish census site? It's free and pretty easy to use.

www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/

That is the official Irish government site which has what records there are. Civil side of the site will cover 1864 onward, post 1922 you will need to also look at the PRONI and GRONI sites if you think the person you are looking at might be in Northern Ireland.

The church records part of the site covers further back, patchily.

Irish census 1901 and 1911 only, most of the earlier returns were destroyed in a fire.

Same problem here! I’m on My Heritage and there is so much I can’t find about my Irish family. So jumping on this if that’s ok! 😌
Plus I find so many people have the same name… 5000 Denis Keoghs and I need to find one !
