Phthisis... a pulmonary tuberculosis or a similar progressive wasting disease.

Candleabra · 07/04/2021 21:15

Phthisis
It's TB (tuberculosis)

MWMWMW · 07/04/2021 21:15

Basically, tuberculosis by the looks of it?

ILoveMyMonkey · 07/04/2021 21:20

Could it be phthisis which when googled is an eye condition, not sure if that could kill you back in the olden days or maybe lithiasis which is a kidney condition.

It’s quite tricky to work out the letters as they’re so swirly. Good luck, hope you work it out.

ILoveMyMonkey · 07/04/2021 21:22

*ignore my eye condition comment - google added the word bulbi to the phthisis - the TB version makes much more sense ha ha

Thank you so much! I find it so hard to read the olden day script!

I have another one if anyone is able to work it out!

Senility
Cholera Morbus (first word shortened and second misspelled)

expectopelargonium · 07/04/2021 21:58

On that first page lower down, there is another cause of death shown for someone else.

Dentition. In other words teething. I remember reading once that they really used to think that babies could die of teething.

Thanks so much!

Oh my gosh, teething! Sad
