Hi I hope someone can point me in the right direction, I'm looking into my maternal grandma's family tree and am struggling to find out who her mum was. Her dad's first wife died so her older siblings were half siblings, she was then born a few years later in 1928 but I can't find any marriage record for her dad to give me a clue and the census information is all before she was born.
Any tips on where I can find out? I know her mum died when she was in her early teens but that's all I can remember! Any help would be fab xx

It could be there's no marriage record to be found. Perhaps your grandmother's mum and dad were never legally married.

Thank you! If that's the case, is it only through a census that I'd possibly find out who she was?

If she was born in 1928 then the birth index should tell you the mother's maiden surname.

If you order her birth certificate it'll have her mothers details on there.

Baptism record may state it, if there is one. Or order birth certificate. Free bmd should list her maternal surname if post 1910.

Oooh thank you that's all fantastic advice!
