I'll try to keep this short.

Which is the genetic test that can trace back men and women, not just the paternal line? Is it the autosomal DNA test? I already have family records of births, marriagea, deaths for one branch of the family tree back to 1639. It has been fascinating

I want to find out about brothers and/or sisters I/we may have, courtesy of my fathers many affairs (he was disgusting towards women, including me and my 4 sisters, we also have 1 brother). 3 of us want to use a genetic testing company to trace any registered family members and the other 3 don't. I would also ensure any matches can contact me.

I was the one who began discussions due to tracing our family tree and I genuinely wish I had just done it, then told them if there was anything to tell.

I also want to find family from my paternal grandfather. My father was born in the 1930s to his unmarried just turned 17 year old mother, my much loved grandmother. Noone knows for certain who my paternal grandfather was; I have a good idea who it was as my grandmother discussed it with me. My siblings disagree about who he was. We think he was married and had at least one other child, so we have at least one half-sibling.

Which is the best dna family finding dna test to use? Any experiences you could share may really help me. Thank you for reading. I'm happy to update with potential results 2am if anyone is interested. Thank you.

Is it worth trying the chat pages on one of the genealogy websites?

No idea myself, but hope you find the answers.

Any of the major tests (ancestry, 23andme, myheritage etc) will match you with genetic relatives. From DNA matches with good family trees I was able to identify my maternal grandfather - obviously the closer the match the easier this is. I’m not sure which is the best, having used them all, ancestry.com was the helpful to me personally but except for one British grandmother and her lineage all my ancestors were American.

Did your grandmother know who the father was? Do you know if he is named on your father's birth certificate?
