Female prison records 1950s?

Does anyone know if and where they might be available? We have a relative who went to prison for several months in the 40s or possibly early 50s, only we don't know which prison yet...

Or might they be sealed??

Try the National Archives

I'd imagine those would be a bit too recent. No harm in asking though.

Although prison records are closed for public access, newspapers that reported the court hearings are not closed records and you could use the index of the British library newspaper archive online
