I have been trying to find out what my Dad did in WW2. I have his Army paybook, with his army number in it. I've looked on Forces War Records, and Find my past. Nothing. I'm really intrigued now, as his pay book is a duplicate, and not all the info seems to be there (it was copied in 1945 according to a note) There is nothing in it to say which branch he belonged to. The most interesting thing is the "record of employment" page which tells me he was a Driver and there is what looks like a K after that. Under the remarks it states "Classified" the date on that isn't clear either. So, any ideas where I go next?

Have you tried the 'army personnel centre'? Their help desk phone number is 0845 600 9663. They are very helpful and should be able to answer your query. A link to it can be found on army.gov.uk website. You probably want the historical disclosures section.

My DH got information about two family members and found that the information was good (including photocopies of service records) and the staff were very helpful.

You could also try the Imperial War Museum.
