Is there a way to identify these men?

I'm looking for the first husband he is shown on marriage certificate and birth of his child as "ship steward merchant service" but then seems to dissappear. 5 years after the wedding my g g grandmother has a baby with a different man ( my g g grandfather) can't find any record of him other than that - no marriage no one of that name exists nearby etc) then two years after she marries again listing herself as widow.

Can't find a death of the first husband, there is a man of the right may and age ( not a hugely common name but not totally unique) living across the country he is listed as mariner but is married and has children with that wife about every year over this period. The second man - who i am really interested in as he is my ancestor seems made up entirely...
Any clues on where I can go with this?
