What proof did they give and what are they suggesting you do about it?

mshadowsisfab · 04/05/2010 11:35

NO
it;'s a con, they take you through all this stuff you should do on your pc......and right at the end they tell you your pc is infected.. and it will cost you (insert ammount) to fix.

I nearly got caught

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 04/05/2010 11:38

No. Microsoft do not phone up individual customers. It's a scam.

SoupDragon · 04/05/2010 11:40

Scam.

Why would microsoft have your phone number?

How did they scan your PC?

BigBadMummy · 04/05/2010 11:41

No no no.

How on earth would they know?

Con Con Con....

Step away from the phone / credit card to pay for the "fix".

Phone Trading Standards? Or even the police on the non-emergency number.

Other people not so wise as you might get caught and get stung for a lot of money.

WhiteNoise · 04/05/2010 11:42

How could microsoft possibly have your phone number in the first place?

Katymac · 04/05/2010 11:50

That is what I thought

I told her I couldn't do it because I was at work

Good call then

I get those calls, they pretend to be from BT Broadband sometimes. They have no idea we are on a Mac network and we just let them rabbit on and then say 'oh wait, there's a message on my screen, yes it says 'fuck off scammers' and then I hang up.

AMumInScotland · 04/05/2010 12:10

Good call - there's no way Microsoft would be calling you up to tell you anything like that. They are just people trying to get money out of you for their "anti-virus" software - which could be totally useless, or even malicious itself!

Katymac · 04/05/2010 22:10

Thanks

Just bumping so everyone knows they are scamming people this way
