Fauly Blackberry (trackball not working) - but Orange don't want to know (despite paying for Orange Care) - what do I do?

Title sums it up really.

The trackball on my BB is broken (won't scroll upwards). I took it to the Orange Shop yesterday who refused to do anything because it was a replacement BB that I bought from Amazon. History to this is that I bought a replacement from Amazon as my dog chewed the original supplied by Orange, and Orange refused to sell me a replacement handset! So rock, hard place.....

I've googled, and have seen that there are lots of BB repair places, but I feel a little nervous as to whether I will ever see my BB again if I post it off. I've also seen that you can buy a replacement trackball and try and DIY using youtube videos - has anyone tried this?

Really keen to hear how people have resolved their broken BB problems, and also whether it's worth complaining to Orange? I can't believe I paid a year's insurance (bought after the dog ate the phone) for absolutely nothing. Grrr!

I can understand the insurance not covering it because it's a different phone to the one they would have insured. There is no way for them to know what state the phone was in when you bought it etc.

What about speaking to the people you bought it from?

grumpypants · 13/04/2010 08:54

so, it's not the bb that you bought from orange? bit like complaining to sky that you tv screen is cracked then? sorry, no love lost here for orange but can't see how if you insure one handset you can expect them to replace one you didn't buy from them. Think you should have made more of a fuss about their handset - didn't the cover deal with accidental damage?

saltyseadog · 13/04/2010 08:59

I took the cover out after the dog incident - with an Orange employee who was aware of the dog eating BB handset/ new replacement history IYSWIM. Ho hum - very difficult to prove that one.

More important is to try and get the thing fixed, even if it means paying for the repair. ANy thoughts please?

household insurance? i agree sending it off might be dodgy?

SoupDragon · 13/04/2010 17:08

How old is it? Can't you complain to Amazon?

saltyseadog · 13/04/2010 17:58

It's just under a year - so I will try contacting the amazon seller.

Yep - household insurance a possibility .

Sorry - I am sounding a moaning old bag, but in past month have had broken washing machine, broken laptop and now this. I am cursed when it comes to technology!

do you have any local mobile phone repair shops, there are 3 in our town and they fixed my keypad (dd1 had somehow managed to make 3 keys stick) replaced the whole pad and fixed another small problem for £13

saltyseadog · 13/04/2010 20:39

Thanks eandh - have just googled and seen that there are a couple in a local town. Will phone tomorrow and see if they can help .
