choice of books on iPad?

dh says he's getting me some kind of e-reader for my birthday I'd originally been considering the sony version or kindle, but now the iPad is here I'm wondering .... as I do love my iPhone so, so much

however, it really depends on the availability and choice of books as the primary purpose would be for reading (I read a lot) - but it would also come in very handy being able to read emails, check MN research stuff on the internet, etc etc

so has anyone got one and does anyone know about the book question?

thanks

I'm not sure what format of reader the iPad uses, but between the Kindle and the Sony there is much, much wider availablity for the Kindle.

I fancied getting an iPad for myself, but I was a bit disappointed by it when it came out. It's a bit too big to sling in my handbag and the reviews that I've read seem to say that it doesn't do any of it's functions really well, it's all compromise.

Also worth considering is that the iPad is back-lit like a computer screen so it's much more of a strain on the eyes than the Kindle or Sony. Also the Kindle/Sony only really use battery power on a page turn and not lighting the screen so the battery lasts much longer.
