Yes, I'll drool, a little. The spec (from GSMarena.com) looks very nice, with sensible options like micro-SD storage, and things I like (FM radio) too.

Being nosy, which network and what contract did you get?

ange8 · 04/04/2010 21:30

I've got one on order from T-mobile, but it's out of stock. I am soooo excited! Quite pathetic for a middle-aged woman, I know. So come on, is it as good as I think it will be?

WilfSell · 05/04/2010 19:15

Ooooh, geek replies...

I got it sim-free and am using it currently on 3 (have a PAYG card with decent internet usage)... I don't like being tied to a contract and I don't update my phone that often so it's fine for me.

It is truly marvellous. The linking of contacts when you kick off is brilliant. It is SOOO fast to do anything; the camera is great; the FM radio is great; there are lots of great Android apps to rival the iPhone.

And it runs Google calendar really well - which means I can finally share organising my life with my family! We got a Joggler to test from MN last year and it has basically been a paperweight in the kitchen because the O2 calendar was, um, crap and couldn't sync with anything beyond itself. However, O2 have just upgraded the software to provide downloadable apps, including Google Calendar, so finally me and the DH and our eldest kid can share all our info - which was really important to me for household stuff. And now I have a proper smartphone I can update on the hoof - exactly what I needed...

Needless to say, the Desire is also a thing of gorgeous beauty...

Oh blimey. Ocado have also just contacted me to say they're developing an app for Android. I have died and gone to heaven

I am probably going to get a Legend because it is £10 a month cheaper on contract. Do you know what the Desire has that the Legend doesn't cos I can't work it out [ruins any geek-like credentials]?

moonshine · 06/04/2010 20:18

Ok, looks like I have to answer my own question by cruising on ultra geeky sites and I can tell you that the Desire may be more powerful but is fine for 95% of stuff the majority of us wants to do, It is also consequently bigger and heavier, and considered less stylish. HTH [said with new-found geeky competitiveness from said sites].

WebDude · 07/04/2010 19:48

Being nosey, which sites did you check?

I tend to check www.GSMarena.com for phone specifications.

If you go to NewsNow.co.uk (and probably down the technology subset) and enter some suitable (mobile phone) name (only one word on the free search) you may find a bunch of websites you've never come across before, covering the item.

It's one of those things best done when there's a storm outside and you have 4+ hours to kill !! (I go off on so many different tangents, which is why I often end up with 40 to 60 open tabs, or different sites open on three PCs!)

Webdude - My particular favourite of a forum I came across is this one here forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=639803. I did, and have in the past, looked at the geeky sites where they list all the specs etc but nothing beats the forums where real-like geeks' sign offs are lists of all their devices alongside their blogs and which go into minute detail about things like cpu throttling. Or maybe I am just easily impressed [shrugs].

I have also got the htc desire. It is fab!! For those waiting from tmobile it might be worth giving them a call. I did this the day I ordered online as I have just received an email saying it was out of stock and a really lovely girl said she would see what she could do as she though there might be a delivery that day but that web orders are usually pushed to the back of the queue. It arrived the next morning much to my suprise and delight

ange8 · 20/04/2010 23:21

Got it last week, and love it! It's so fast. I struggled for a couple of days with battery life, but have got better at managing it and turning off services I'm not using, like gps.

auberginesrus · 22/04/2010 23:24

Ooh glad to hear its good, mine arrives tomorrow (on Orange)

varicoseveined · 26/04/2010 15:30

I got mine last week...bloody brilliant phone! And Ocado on Android soon?! Yay!!!

Gonna get a nice 16GB card for some music...

What apps has everyone got?

varicoseveined · 26/04/2010 15:50

moonshine - if you haven't seen already, the main difference between the Legend and the Desire is that the Desire has a faster processor.
