DD, 8yo, has never been on the computer alone before, and has only ever watched funny animal films on Youtube (and done some online shopping at Boden).

Last night we were at a friends and she discovered that there are games on the computer.

She sneaked into the office this morning and searched for the websites that she was on with her friend yesterday. God knows how she managed it.

Luckily the websites that came up were ok, but I shudder to think what she might have turned up. She was also interested in "hamster games".

Anyhow, what I need is some childsafe software. Anyone got a recommendation? Do I have to pay for it?

Can I put it just on one account, so that I can MN without getting blocked?

If you want full on control and internet filtering K9 is free for personal use and looks like it might be fairly good.

Not really sure what I need. I guess that in the coming years the DC will be using the computer more so I need to have some kind of protection on there.

Will check out K9, thanks.

Ok, had a look at K9 and the only problem is that it seems to block all dodgy websites on all accounts.

I would prefer to have something that works only on the DC's account.

Oops - I should have read your opening post properly .

If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7 I think that there are various parental controls you can activate for individual user accounts.

My ds's play those AKON (?) games online, there are 1000's to choose from.

Just found them laughing like drains at a carttony one where you click on 'soap' and a stick man man drops the soap and bends over, then click on 'rape' and a black line drops from another ones crotch and he approaches from the rear.

My 2 luckily know nothing about rape and were just laughing 'at the funny man'. But how inappropriate?

Jesus, Cyb. That is shocking.

DD was using a website with games, but I was a bit unsure whether it would be ok, and did not have time to check it all out thoroughly.

I steered them towards the Cbeebies website. They had great fun with the alphabet game.

I put the parental controls on (Windows Vista) but it blocks just about everything. I could not even google games for them.

Perhaps I could find some decent games websites and put them on favourites for them, and then block everything else.
