Do blu-ray players play normal DVDs?

DH has asked me to ask.

I don't even know what a blu ray player is.

But we're sure someone here has the answer.

Be aware that it's not a part of the specifications that a "Blu-Ray" device must be able to play DVDs.

So do check.

Also depending on the player the level of DVD support may differ. There's something called "upscaling" which can make DVDs look better when played on a High-Definition TV that different players might do to different levels.

So another thing to check when comparing different players.
