well - we have it because DH has sky sports and likes to watch the cricket in HD, but it is nice for some BBC Attenborough shows and LOST in HD on sky.

If we didn't have the sport though I wouldn't think it was worth it currently for the small amount of true HD stuff that's on. But that will change, there is more and more on as time passes.

Some of the boxes are laggy though, we have (i think) an Amstrad HD box and it is very slow in terms of remote control response and it is incredibly annoying. Not all of the boxes do it though.

We would get the box by sky if that makes sense. Didnt realise there were other makes.

there aren't as such - they are all sky boxes, but there are different models - some are made by different manufacturers. You can't specify which one you get and you won't know until you can have a look at it.

No idea if this still happens but there certainly used to be a time delay between the normal Sky feed and the HD feed for live sports, possibly caused by the additional time taken to crunch down and then unpack all that extra information in the TV picture.

So what would mean that if you're watching a live big game and your team is coming close to scoring you'd hear the cheers from down the road where people are watching on normal Sky before you'd actually see on your HD box what they were cheering about...

We found that happened anyway between the normal feed and real life - you would certainly hear something on the radio befoe you could seen it on the standard sky box for sports. Dh would have his radio out in the garden and be running in to catch a wicket
